I took my daughter Amanda with me to a local beach yesterday had some lunch and then we did a little rock hounding and here are a few pic's of what we found. Also what do I start with to tumble beach rock? Do I start with 60/90 or do I go to 120/220 grit the rocks are very smooth and round? Thank you for looking and the all the help you have been giving John

Some of those are smooth enough to start in the 120/220. I'd put all of them in the 60/90 for 1 week and then go to the 120/220, or if you can get more of those really smooth ones start those in the 120/220.

Bikerrandy I am going to take your advice and start with 60/90 for a week to make sure. This is going to be very interesting batch. Thanks

The two rocks on the upper left hand side second & third one down are very heavy for there size do you have any idea what they are I try to look them up but can find anything.

Nice haul John,Looks like the stuff we pick up on the Conn. side.Cant help with the I.D. but I think they have some iron in them,I find them here often and they do weigh a little more than most rocks we find.Post some pics of your progress if you can, cant wait to see how they come out. Mike

Definitely keep them all in 60/90 until they all have a flat smooth surface. Any concavities will not fare well in the later stages since the grit will be unable to get into the nooks to smooth them out. The quartzy stones should do quite well but the granite type stones will probably not wear evenly & you may get some undercutting in the prepolish/polish stages.

PS Make sure you have a good selection in the barrel of smaller stones as well
