I went to check my beach rock that has been tumbling for 3days and when I took off the lid a ton of thick small bubbles Is this OK.

I usually find the early stages of any grind a little "frothy". It shouldn't be a concern. If gas builds up, you will see your barrels bulge out a little on the soft rubber end.
Clean your barrel lid, barrel groove, and O-ring really well. If you get grit in there and don't get a good seal, you run the risk of a leak. Let your barrels stand up on end for 10 min to 15 min to get a good seal before setting them spinning.
I've skipped the above step, and blown a few lids shortly after re-starting a tumble. Most new members will probably have a blown lid horror story. Now I have a drip pan under my tumbler just in case.

150FromFundy What I did was left the lid off for 15 min clean the rubber seal and put the drum back on again. Also I cheated and took a rock out and it looked real nice and smooth I figure 3 more days and move to the next stage.

There could be some natural matter from the beach on them and that creates gas in the first round. You did good to check after a few days to relieve the gas. That should cut down as time goes on unless the rocks are just a gassy bunch. Just check every few days to be sure and as long as the gas starts to cut down, you will be fine leaving it a little longer. Fran

Sometimes the froth is so thick that I scoop some out and toss it. I lose a little grit this way, but it sure makes it easier to dig in and check a few stones without all that fluff in the way!
