Grant: What you have in the back of your rig with the speckled paint is one of the Richardson Rach's dry polishers. Two things to know about these polishers, first, they do an amazing job of polishing large flats fast, and the second, they need an exhaust so you are not breathing silica dust, which as you know is not good for for your lungs. Chasfire has one, and makes rock shine so great, that it hurts your eyes in sunlight. I an sure that would answer any questions you have about this machine. Woody

They can also be more dangerous than other machines. I have the scar to prove it. This machine uses multiple grit-steps of sanding paper, similar to what a hardwood-floor sander uses. The paper gets glued onto the rubber pad that is at the bottom of the shaft in your photo. If the paper is not glued down carefully enough it can separate - imagine a paper cut at 1700RMS, that required 30 minutes to get all the sand/grit scrubbed out of it and then 4 stitches to close it up. I wear heavy leather gloves now when I use mine. Makes it a little harder to hold the rock but ... On the positive side, like Woody said this machine can polish up a flat rock extremely fast. It is what the Richardsons use for sanding/pre-polishing thundereggs at their shop/ranch. Good find.
