Yes kids .... I just could not take it anymore ... I finally finished the batch and for the most part ... I think I did great for a beginner. However ... at the same time ... I am bummed I did not do better. Here are the pics and I want all input ... No Holds Barred ... Most of, if not all have a great glassy polish .... however I did have some stones that now I understand how being too soft can affect polish. I have also noticed, only by looking at each stone in a magnifying glass, very tiny scratches, nicks, or pits. There are some that I would love to fix (so to speak) but am really happy to just give myself credit for being patient (yes master .... I am the grasshopper) ;D These are not all the pictures .... I am just having loading issues with my server ... As always Julie

Wow, Nice job there Julie. You got a shine for sure! Now, the green moonstone/smoky quartz will be a bit softer, a 6.5 on Mohs. It will go a little faster for you. Jo
Also, you can re-run the ones that didn't get the shine you wanted. That's the beauty of it all!

I think you did a wonderful job on your first batch. Some of them are not easy stones either! I see you have some green aventurine and that can always be a bit of a problem with shinning but it looks like yours did. The area of hematite(?) running through the last stone in the last picture would have a harder time of shinning because it is a softer area than the stone. It looks like you have a little bit of impact fracture or undercutting but that just happens. Overall, no holds barred, you did great! ;D Fran

Good job Julie! Congratulations on a successful first batch!
As one Newb to another, I can relate to the patience thingy...more equipment I say, to fill the gaps and defeat that little monster called IMpatient!!!

I think it's a great tumble! Don't be too hard on yourself. When your second batch is done, compare it to your first, see what you've learned, etc. If you're unhappy with some of these, stick them in with that second batch you're about to start! I have some rocks that are waiting to piggyback into another stage 3, since I think they needed a little more time.
My house is full of plastic sherbet containers and ziptop bags! These need washed before #2, these need more #1 (but I threw them out in favor of something else that caught my eye at the time), these need to go back to #2, etc.
And yes, get another tumbler when you can! I like my Thumler's 12-lb, because I can move the shaft and use it for two 3-lb barrels.
OK, start #2!

First .... I started the new batch even before I posted this about the finished batch. Ya think I am gonna waste any time!!!! Hell No!!!
I am at work right now and my boss tends to be really cool in the afternoons, so I am going to try to take pictures (lots of pics) here as the lighting is more agreeable for close ups and detail.
After I post the additional pics ... I would love to pick your brains. I am also (when I get home) going to split all of the stones up into batches/levels/degree of re-do I would like to do. There are a handfull that I am not going to to touch as they are perfect.
As for the containers ... I have the same type of container storage going. Mind you I have not been this long so I do not have the number of containers as I would love.
Right now I a baggie with rough stuff I pulled early on in my tumbling (around January). I am trying to make my baggies of to be tumbled batches. I have containers (I Can't Believe It's Not Butter) to hold the different pellets (different stages). I am using Glad square containers and Trader Joe's Animal Cracker bowl with lid for the various grits and polish. I can stack these.
For some reason I cannot locate any measuring spoons in the kitchen as they are now just used for grit and polish. ;D
More Later
As Always ... my humble thanks

Woohoo!!!! Great job Julie. I understand impatience, I have not yet acquired the skill of patiently waiting for things......especially when its something I want REAL BAD.
