I am finding out that taking pictures ... especially close ups of glass is a big pain in the butt!! However ... I will persevere or irritate who ever ... OH WELL!! First and foremost .... Apache Tears ... rough and beautiful ... how I got these ... only those that sent them to me will know ... my most humble thanks and gratitude for such precious gifts ... Polished on the top and rough on the bottom .... (sounds almost ... never mind) ...

I once covered a coffee table in the 70's with slabs and then clear epoxy. Looked good, just heavy. ken

I think similar conversations have happened on this board before; but, the best way to take "still photos" of things like rocks, glass, jewelry, etc is to have a photo tent. There are many kinds, styles and prices. It helps diffuse the light (which helps cut glare, usually a good thing) and gives a uniform backdrop color to help focus your eye on what you want to show. They are very inexpensive on ebay (search photo tent or photo cube). There are also discussions throughout the web on how to make your own. Here is an image of one taken off the web (linked to original site also):

Nice display Julie,I made a photo cube out of a large cardboard box, just cut out the sides, top and back and wrap the 'frame' in tissue paper.I have a gooseneck light on top and two lights on the sides. You can add one in the back too if you want a backlit pic.It makes a big difference in the photos,a tripod is another must have item for good pics.
