I thought this might be a cute idea for the rockhounds with kids. I used to make soap dishes like these when I made soap and candles for a living, few months ago, threw this one together. Now Ed says we need one in all the rooms, just need to take my time and place the rocks better. Use a sheet of cabinet liner, you get the rolls at walmart. E6000 glue is the best as it lets the liner fold over edges without letting the rock break loose. With silicone and many other glues, the rocks won't hold, I have yet to have a rock fall off since I used the E6000 glue. These are great for holding a bar of soap, plus if you use handmade soap (like you should be ;D ) it well let your soap dry and last a lot longer! Ignore the dirty sink!

That's a very original idea! Great use for tumbled stones too! Do you have to rough up the side of the tumbled stone where they are glued to the cabinet liner?
I've been thinking about a different idea for a soap dish - now if I can get away from the computer long enough to make it, I'll post it here. Garry

You don't have to do anything to the rock, just add a bit of the glue and glue it. Since the cabinet liner material has holes, I normally lay these on sheets of aluminum foil, that way none of the glue makes it through to a table or anything, wax paper might work to, then just peel them off and they are done.

I might use that in the shower to drain the soap better. I use Dove and I swear I go through soap like crazy since it is so soft. I like homemade soaps, just easier to buy storemade. Great, inexpensive, original idea!

chinook, I am stealing your idea with a bit of modification.
I am going to use a mold and make a base for the soap holder. Will use casting resin and put small rocks around the side of the mold. I hope I can embed the rocks in the resin, but might have to glue them on.
Will post a pic when (if) I get it done anytime soon.
