My wife stopped on the side of the road in Arkansas yesterday and bought some pieces of wavellite for me. This is amazing, because she usually says "Chuck, we have enough rocks." :-)
I'll post pics as soon as I can. She's flying back at the moment.
Anyway, it's only 3.5 - 4 hardness. I was wondering if it could be polished and with what?
Would I be better off coating it with super glue or opticon and then polishing that?
Thanks! Chuck

Wavelite is usually a mineral specimen. Never seen it polished before, but if it works, it should be very interesting.

Well, I just got my first look at the rocks and you're right Curt, these will have to go in the specimen collection. It's botryoidal and druzy with most of the globes about 1/8" in diameter or less. It seems to have formed in the fractures of the host rock.
Cool stuff, though.

Those are much better than my specimens. The best part about the whole deal is my wife buying rocks for me (a first).

Here a couple of wavellite cabs I cut last year. The material is from Brasil. These were some of my first cabs. I don't remember any difficulty except that a few of them fractured. It wasn't as bad as working with prehnite. The cabs are actually much more yellow in color than the pictures show.
