Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not but I ordered a box of the "odds and ends" rocks from stonesthatrock at an unbelievable price and wanted to share. This was an unbelievable box of rocks - lots of stuff I've never seen before and lots of stuff I can't WAIT to see all polished and pretty! I'd also like to nominate Mary Ann for the Snowdog Box Packing Award - she can fill it! In my mind, these rocks were wayyy nicer than the price she charged - but that shouldn't surprise anyone here! So here's just a smidgen of what was in my box. I need to apologize for the photography - I've not mastered the art yet and have a hard time keeping a dog nose/tail out of the picture. Forgot to put something in for size reference but these are mostly around fist sized. Any (better) ID's will certainly be appreciated! This is a Fat Rind Rock - Marbley Rock - Sweet Rock - Splatter Paint Jasper (this one is greener in real life) - Green Ice Rock (deeper green in reality) - Warp Speed Agate - Stripey Rock (wonderstone?) - This is one of my favorites and probably one of my worst photos - it reminds me of the autism awareness ribbons (lots of different colored puzzle pieces) so this is Autism Awareness Rock - Red Moss Half Rock - Close up of same: Earth Rock (another very cool rock with a very bad photo) - Close up of same: Speckly Rock (maybe something like Bird's Eye Rhyolite to others?) - This is just a few of the rocks in this awesome box - I'll not butcher any more pictures tonight but hopefully you can get some idea of what kind of stuff was in there. This was a GREAT box - Mary Ann thank you so much! Sorry my pictures didn't do your rocks justice!

So Ralph is the one that needs to be nominated for the Snowdog Box Packing award then? I'd swear sometimes these boxes seem bottomless! Quick question for you Mary Ann - how do you know a rock is dino poo? Not doubting what you say - but as I was having some fun of asking someone to hold it for me then telling them what it is - someone asked - how do you know? All I could tell them was - don't question Stonesthatrock! But then I had to admit I didn't know how you would tell that about any other rock. Is there something that gives it away? I'm going to have to go read about how it's formed too - er...well I know how it's formed - but how it's preserved. The same person who asked how I knew it is dino poo didn't think that there would be that much of it around - thinking about how most..poo...breaks down so quickly. I told her it was when the meteorites hit the planet - all the dino's in the world saw them streaking through the sky and it scared the ..poo...out of them. All at once. Literally. That's why there's still some to be found. I don't think she believed me... I'm so excited to have my very own piece though. Been looking at it trying to figure out what exactly the guy that created it had for lunch. I've not gotten very far but I think it will be pretty once it's all shiny!

Funny you mention the dinosaurs, my son is 8 and was reading last night, The Day The Dinosaurs Died. He saw the dino bone cab I made recently and refuses to believe it is dino bone, then I got a piece of coprolite in the box from Banjo, and he is even more confused!!! He is in awe yet so skeptical!!! So then I got the pics from AZ and showed him the meteor crater to try to explain the crash, now he is even more fascinated with rocks! And even more in awe of the dinosaurs, they are really a curiosity for young boys!

how do i know its dino poo? ? because the man i bought it all from told me thats what it was... lmao No really i have to tell you this story. We were doing a show in calif. when a lady walked up took a small piece of coprolite ( dino poo) and prceeded to tell me that a friend of hers, an author) studied dino's and what they ate, and pooped. The author wrote a book all about the coprolite and all the studies they did on the rock to find out exactly what it was/ is. The most facinating thing she told me is that 75 spiecies of the plants the dino' ate are still around today. I couldn't believe that. Like you i do look at the rock and try to figure out, did he eat meat, man or veggies??? lol If i get a piece with alot of red....... i tell kids he ate the caveman lol They get a kick out of that. I'm not too good at iding rock, i leave that up to mel......... hehehe Like i said, i know thats dino poo because thats what i was told and also it looks like a lot of other i have seen, whew, did i talk too much. mary ann
