Enough snow has melted that the beaches are once again accessible. What a way to spend a Saturday afternoon! This is Partridge Island at Parrsboro, Nova Scotia at low tide (elevation 5 ft). Much if the beach is covered at high tide (elevation 50 ft). You always have to be conscious of where the water is when you collect along this coast, or you could find yourself stranded. It's about a 3 hour hike around the island depending on how much collecting you do. The cliffs are early Jurassic / late Triassic basalt, about 200 million years old and have been subject to many contacts, faults, lava flows, and glaciation. This photo shows some vertical seams of agate that have filled in fractures. It's a harsh existence for some trees with little soil and salt spray. This photo shows some staining on the cliff face that is a mix of zeolites. I overstuffed my five gallon bucket and dragged it off the beach, feeling much pain by the end of it all. I will be running my saw all day and post some photos of my finds soon. 150FromFundy

WOW Those vertical seams of Agate are neat. I just know I would get myself in trouble on those . I can just see my chubby A$$ halfway up that cliff trying to wiggle a piece loose and a really big chunk would dislodge from above me and there goes an ear It's a good thing for me, that the drive up there is such a long one, if it wasn't, I would be buying some climbing equipment and taking lessons  Harley

Beautiful and rugged is the thought I first had when I looked at these pictures! I don't know if I would be up for any climbing on those! Fran

What a neat place, tho it seems a little eerie. With my luck I'd lose track of time and get swept out to sea lol. Can't wait to see what treasures you packed outta there!

Love how the trees pop out of the cliffs like that and how the cliffs are so flat-faced! Can't wait to see pics of your loot! Jo
