I bought the Inland... just the lap setup... had it for a week or so now but I just got the 60 grit disk yesterday... figured I'd break it in by windowing some WWR biscuits.... and this popped out! Can't wait to go back! Dan

Thank you Ladies!
Fran - I highly recommend a 60 grit disk. Really cuts through the stone quickly.... I was using the 170 grit disk that came with the Lap and wasn't happy with the time it was taking to do the job.
Thank again, Dan

Dan, the majority of Inland and Ameritool units are used for glass so 170 works fine (or 180 with Ameritool). If they include 60, 80, or 100 grit they couldn't jump to 325 grit sanding disc. A lot of lapidary cutters buy a 60 or 80, then use the 170 (or 180) to remove scratches and then on through the finer discs. The biggest problem with both brands are plugged drains. If water is dripping on the lap it has to be coming out the drain. Both units can have damaged motors if water overflows into the motor bearings. I spoke wth a serious facetor this weekend that said Inland's sintered laps are the absolute best on the market. Although very expensive he said they apparently don't wear out (much like their sintered wheels).

Thanks for the info John. Ed was telling me that I should consider sintered wheels for my grinder as well... when it comes time to replacing them I'll give you a shout. ... I didn't think to check with you to see if you carried the Inland... probably should have but for some reason I didn't think you offered them.
I'm thinking I should get a 100 grit disk too....

I have the 100 and it helps. I just ordered the 60 too. Boy, don't I know it about the motor! My problem wasn't clogged drain but if the arbor comes loose and the lap slips down to rest on the plastic lip on the trey and you don't realize it for a minute or two, it wears it down so water runs down the shaft into the motor. That happend to me and 2 motors shot before realizing what the problem was. I had to get a new tray from Inland and another motor. So far, so good but that arbor will come loose when I least expect it! By the look of it, you may have yours resting too low. If there is white around the lip area, you are wearing it down. Fran

I hope I get the nerve to cab it soon, Amber... lol...
Thanks for the advice Fran. I see what mean. I've raised the disk height and will definitely keep an eye on the drain.
