I see talk on the board regarding Thundereggs, but feel we should bring these unique creations to a brighter light and corupt you folks much more! ;D Below is a small series of photo's of a few "oddities" or rare Thundereggs I've collected or cut and polished and is part of my personal collection. The same photo's as below were actually taken by me for use in a upcoming Thunderegg book in Germany at the end of the year. Enjoy! Ok this is a Egg inside of an Egg inside of an Egg.... From Central Oregon Tube Agate and botyroidal agate... Hollow Thunderegg the was found in one of my personal mines. Another fantastic egg from one of my pesonal mines. This was one of the first few eggs I cut after finding the locality. Tilt Thunderegg - This came from Little Florida Mt. in New Mexico. A tilt happens when a earthquake or other form of ground movement shifted the egg and it filled in on another plane. The Dolphin - This was self collected at a Central Oregon Spot called Donnybrook Bed. This is a slip Thunderegg. Again some sort of movement shifted this egg and it re-healed itself. This egg came from Fred Bed, which Fred Bed is actually a verticle dike... so maybe this egg slipped during a uplift?

Nice specimens. If I were to pick a favorite it would probably be the Dolphin. If you had cut that Egg at ANY other angle, you would have had a Ho-Hum just another uneventful Egg. After opening THAT one I know I would have shut off the saw and ran to the store to buy a Lottery ticket Harley

Very nice display of eggs! The "tilt" and "slip" really show history in progress. Very cool!

Larry - I'd have to honestly say the best Thundereggs or at least my favorite locality would have to be Steins Pillar. This is a private claim held by a very nice gal in Central Oregon. I have seen some jaw dropping specimens!
Also any of the Ochoco Mountain localities are fantastic. The variety you get in the Ochoco's is unreal. The one claim I own is unique as well. I have Thundereggs which produces about 6 different colors and patterns in the matrix. You could lay them all side by side and never guess they come from the same pit. Also the same claim on rare notes, produces Precious Opal cores.... Very unique, especially in Oregon!

When you say precious-opal-filled do you mean opal with actual fire in it? I'd love to see a photo of that! Well, actually I'd love to collect/own one like that!

Yes one of the claims I own actually have small Thundereggs with Jelly and Precious Opal. Clear based opal with the rainbow fire. Also the claim produces Contra Luz Opal's as well.... They seem to be more common than the normal Precious Opal. Most all the opals are highly unstable meaning once they come out of the ground they start to crack and craze... So storing them in water is very advisable! Tomorrow if the sunshine is out, I'll try to get some photo's for everyone...

this is an egg I bought from jason about 3 years ago. not the best pic (it's much greener w/lots of quartz action in center) but I love it because it's green. Jason...this is supposed to be from Opal butte too. these last two are some hunks I picked up right off the road going to Kahneetah. it's very fragile green matrix with all these little tiny thundereggs all over.

Ahhh yes the Killer Green! I actually have taken owner ship of that bed now.... So I can get more down the road. Nice opal butte! I sent one to a buddy yesterday to cut for me (too large for my saw) and he said it turned out awesome! I have yet to see it, and it's killing me. Also thanks for the photo's of the Kahneetah material. I have heard of Thundereggs just outside in the road cut, however always been afraid to stop due to the Reservation property. Great stones! Keep up the good hounding
