I never made one but I bought one made of natural brazilian agate, not the dyed stuff. I love the sound also.

Interesting observation about the sound that an agate makes. I never thought of making wind chimes, but I often use the sound to ID agates from the 10,000 other beach rocks that surround it, to be sure that I am not lugging trash of the beach.
I have to admit, the sound of an agate is sweet. Usualy, if it sounds pretty when dropped on the beach, it will likely blow you away when it hits the saw.

I made some. Brazilian agates are what I used, they sound the best. They're hanging in my daughter's room.

I think, from my experience, that the harder the rock, the better they sound. The rhyolite I cut has a real dull sound compared to the agates I cut which have a nice ring to them.

I've seen brazilians (both natural and dyed) used; I've also seen obsidian needles used. The obsidian ones were pretty with mahogany ob.
