Today was supposed to be my first hounding trip of the year.
I was going to hound the stream / creek bed in this valley.
This is part of the stream/creek bed I was SUPPOSED to hound.
It turned out to be a hounding venture from hell.
The first problem was the weather. It suddenly changed for the worse and the pilot couldn't land the plane.
So he got as low as was safe, and I had to jump.
A gust of wind blew me into some trees and left me hanging about 50' over some rocks.
I eventually managed to cut myself loose and fell - aaaaarrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhh ...
... luckily I landed in the river.
Managing to release my chute, I had to swim some rapids to get to dry land.
Unfortunately, I had only gotten myself stuck in a ravine. I had to climb the rock face without any ropes or safety gear, to get to the next ledge up, which took me perilously close the the side of a 75' waterfall.
On my hands and knees I had to traverse the ledge and climb the lichen covered rock face beside a water fall. By this time I was tired and feeling as low as I thought I could get, but things were to get worse later in the day.
After nearly two hours I managed to clear the summit, and saw this:
Dammit Too many trees - I was now in the wrong valley.
So I had to try and retrace my steps.
I absailed down a rockface using a single vine, that just happened to be hanging there.
Swam across the river for the umpteenth time
The only safe way to get back down past the water fall was to dive off the edge. So holding my breath I took the plunge (so to speak.)
I pulled myself to the side of the river, and walked for about three miles ...
... in the wrong direction.
This was easy to notice when I realised that the river had infact dried up
By this time I was virtually on my last legs and totally exhausted, so decided to call it a day and leave while the going was good.
I climbed up the side of the dried stream bed to start my long walk home. When I got over the rise I saw THIS ...
... FFS could things get any worse???
And you think you had a Chit day?
