i bought this from jamie awhile back and couldn't wait until i could cut it. Finally the 24" is up and running so this was one of the first to go in. I love the colors and all but it falls apart so i can't get nice slabs from it I was thinking of cutting it in half and making bookends or something. I'm not sure it will polish. As you can see from the small slab piece it has alot of pits, and its soft. I still like it, just don't know what to do with it. ty ralph and mary ann [

Too bad that it falls apart. They would make some awesome cabs! But bookends would be pretty too. Not sure about the polishing question. I love the look of the first photo.

Shame it fell apart, and a pity it's so pitty 'cuz it's so pretty.
Could it be sealed with Opticon maybe?

Have you considered any of those stabilization tricks? Soak your slabs in acetone and epoxy mix for a few days?

Maryann,
When you and Ralph were picking out your material, Rodney pointed out the dendrites to you so that you were aware of the differences in hardness and made a comment like.... "These 2 boulders are nice landscape rocks." Or something like that. Both sides of our driveway are lined with some of the prettiest lapidary cutting grade onyx available, why don't you come and pick something else out to replace that with. There may not be another 75 lb piece out there but there are plenty of 25 and 35 lb pieces to choose from and they are solid and free of any type of pits.

I remember that large piece. That is the one that Rodney gave you, remember....he told you in advance that it was landscape rock. Silly girl...............he tried to direct you to the better stuff! At least you didn't have to pay for it...........he through that one in for free. Guess he suspected what might happen. Have you cut any of that Roosevelt Travertine yet? That was beautiful rock!
