I had some free time the other day so I took the kids down to a little cove near the house to see what we could find.I've been driving by this spot every day for years. It's a good fishing area and before I was into rocks I used to think it would be a good swimming spot if it wasn't for all the stones all over the beach :)We ended up with about 200lbs.A lot of nice tumbling quartz and a lot of bigger stuff that I just started slabbing.I dont have a clue as to what most of this stuff is but everything I've cut so far has been very hard.
Havent cut this one yet,it's loaded with mica but the sparkles didnt really come out in the pic.
I'm pretty sure this is quartz with some nice red in it.
This one looks a lot like Rio Grande agate.
Not sure what this is but it looks cool.
The slabs on top came from a rock that was bright red on the outside. The ones in the lower right are local Granite, lower left is another unknown.
Another shot of the Granite. This was quarried about ten miles away and was used to make all the jetties at the local beaches.
Here's some tumbling rough my daughter picked out, she's already got some rolling.
Some nice blue in this one.
Some more pics of the unknowns.
This is common on the beach here.I dont know if it's Iron or some kind of hematite but it's really heavy.
I haven't unloaded the rest from the truck yet.I'm always grumbling that there isnt any good rock to be found around here, guess I proved myself wrong.I've never seen anyone collecting in this area before and it's within walking distance from the house.Hope you enjoy the pics,Mike
