* ...Like Many Friends Make a Life ** = The Tree of Friendship (in Romanian) *** ... Grows the Lofty Oaks of Love. Hello, fellows! The naming of the trees finished, time to vote now! We chose 15 names out of the total of 29. Each of us (Ina, Ioana and me) picked 15 names and we chose the names which had 2 or three votes. Amazingly, those names were also 15, so there they were our favorites. Once again, I thank you everyone for posting your names, all of them were great and it was a really difficult task to eliminate some of them, both because they are great and because I know what special persons stand behind each of those names. I'm sure most of you will find difficult to pick only a favorite name, that's why I set the poll such as each of you to cast two votes. Thank you everyone again so much for the leaves, for the encouragements and for giving me the reason to make those trees. What was hard is over now, please let's all of us make one more small effort and cast our votes for our favorite names! Good luck everyone, Adrian PS. Some names did not fit into the text boxes or needed to be translated, they are marked with *, ** and *** and they are continued at the beginning at the post. You have ten days to vote, after that the poll will close automatically.

Adrian, maybe the poll should have stayed hidden until after voting ends or at least make the votes non-retractable. JMO
Thanks for the wonderful contest and the trees are most impressive!!

Tonja, now I notice the votes are retractible. It wasn't my intention and apparently I cannot fix it any more. I hope it won't affect the results too much.

OK, folks, glad to see things are moving here! It' looks to be a tough race, two names on the first place and some very close runner ups. I'm kinda glad by now I set the votes to be retractable, although it was not my intention. This way you can re-cast your votes to your favorite names which really have a chance to win. Adrian

Looks like a favoite has been almost detached by now! But there's still enough days to vote and those retractable votes could bring even more unexpected changes. Thank you both to the voters and also to the ones who didn't vote yet, 'cause I know you will Adrian

Folks, the leaves from Ronda (Akansan) arrived here today, so the trees are going to be enriched! The leaves from Karen are about to arrive these days, too. Adrian PS. They are already grooved and hanging in the trees. No more bald branches by now! ;D

With less than 24hrs remaining for the voting in this election I submit my election campaign speech. Vote NOW !!!
Vote: Roots in Romania - Branches Around the World Let me begin by saying thanks to all you who've voted in the past week.
We all made this journey for a reason. It's humbling, but in my heart I know you didn't come here just for me, you came here because you believe in what this forum can be. In the face of despair, you believe there can be hope. In the face of disagreements that shut you out, that's divided us for too long, you believe we can be one people, reaching for what's possible, building that more perfect community.
I have realised that the voting has not been for the name of the tree, but for the name behind the name.
The genius of our RTH founders is that they designed a system that can be changed. And we should take heart, because we've changed this forum before.
I beseech you to revisit your votes, search your hearts. Vote for the name of the trees, not the name behind the name. It won't be easy. That's why we'll have to set priorities. We'll have to make hard choices. Each of us, in our own lives, will have to accept responsibility - for instilling an ethic of achievement in our children, for adapting to a more competitive community, for strengthening our communities, and sharing some measure of sacrifice. So let us begin.
Let us begin this hard work together. Let's set high standards for our pupils and give them the resources they need to succeed. Let's recruit a new army of mentors. The experts in cabbing, wrapping and tumbling. Let's be the generation that makes future generations proud of what we have done here. What skills we have shared, what skills we have passed on and what friendships have been sealed and bonded in rock and wire.
Finally, there is one other thing that is not too late to get right about this election - and that is the homecoming of this tree. Let us be the ones to cast aside all indifferences, let us be the ones to vote with our hearts and not with our emotions. Let us be the generation that begins this work.
I know there are those who don't believe we can do all these things. I understand the scepticism. After all, candidates from all parties make similar suggestions, and I expect this will be no different. All of us making grand speeches; all of us will trumpet those qualities we believe make us uniquely deserving of this tree. But too many times, after the voting is over, and the confetti is swept away, all those promises fade from memory, and the lobbyists and the special interests move in, and people turn away, disappointed as before, left to struggle on their own.
That is why this campaign can't only be about me. It must be about us - it must be about what we can do together. This campaign has to be about reclaiming the meaning of friendship, restoring our sense of common purpose, and realising that few obstacles can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.
As Abraham Lincoln organised the forces arrayed against slavery, he was heard to say: "Of strange, discordant, and even hostile elements, we gathered from the four winds, and formed and fought to battle through."
That is our purpose here today.
That's why I'm in this race. Not just to hold an office, but to gather with you to transform a community.
I want to win that Tree - for justice and opportunity.
I want to win that Tree - for freedom of speech, for freedom of movement, and for freedom to act without being chastised or segregated and ignored. I want us to take up the unfinished business of perfecting our community, and building a better friendship. And if you will join me in this improbable quest, if you feel destiny calling, and see as I see, a future of endless possibility stretching before us; if you sense, as I sense, that the time is now to shake off our slumber, and slouch off our fear, and make good on the votes we have wasted, then I'm ready to take up the cause, and march with you, and work with you. I am ready to accept this tree as a joint venture.
Together, starting today, let us finish the work that needs to be done, and usher in a new birth of freedom on this Earth.
Usher a new birth to the friendship that was born in Romania, and now has families and branches around the world.
It's not too late to change your vote, it's not too late to vote.Vote NOW !!!

YEAH! That's how I imagined it's gonna be! "Campains", competitors trying to convince the voters their name is the best, counter-campains and so on! Very touching and convincing "plea", mr. Rogue! I'm sure this will add some votes in your yard, although there are some other great names in the contest! Any counter-attacks? Adrian

That is really nice Rogue, especially since I was the one that donated the leaves for you to enter the competiton in the first place!!!
If it means so much to you to belittle the enjoyment and friendships that I have on this fourm, then I will remove myself from the competition. For me this site has always been more about the friendships and sharing of knowledge than anything else. Sorry you feel I made so little contribution to the site!

Amber I was trying to put a little humour and excitement into it. You have my most sincere apologies. Retracted. Please apart from cutting and pasting just one sentence, point me to the part where you feel I have said you have made little contribution to the site. And, for what it is worth, the whole speech is in fact copied from the speech given by the POTUS on his campaign tour. Then again, I guess no one voted for him either. I hope you can make many many more leaves from the few rocks I have sent you in appreciation for the leaves you donated for me.

Well since I never received a box from you, I am not holding my breath! I'll post the proof of posting for all to see then you can retract your accusation that I take it to be. This is you I guess?

I think Amber just missed the joke. Re-tasking an existing speech was kinda a neat bit of humor. I've learned (through my own mis-steps) that it is worth a PM to check out what is meant before posting a reply.

Indeed a part of it? Mmmmm, which part would that be?
I guess I'm at fault because it hasn't been delivered?

Rogue,
Humor can be painful, but I imagine you know that!!
Amber has a very loving spirit and is extremely generous, but I imagine you know that too. Your stab at joking pierced her heart and I believe wounded her deeper than you can imagine.
John
PS- Voting for the name or the namer is acceptable.
