Proudly Announces a Special Contest:
The First Annual
World Rock Tumbling Championships
We are a relatively new lapidary club, and we have decided that the world needs an international rock tumbling championship to see who really is the very best rock tumbler in the entire world. This contest is open to everyone, in every country, who would like to see how they rank in the popular worldwide field of rock tumbling. There are no age limits or other restrictions. Heres how it works: Once we receive your completed application with your $40.00 entry fee (entries must be postmarked by May 15, 2009), we will send you, via Postal Priority Mail, about 4 pounds of our special Stoney Creek Jasper tumbling rock. Then, you will tumble the rock in a rotary or vibratory tumbler and mail ½ pound of your best pieces back to us for judging--the entries must be received by us no later than September 15, 2009. Yes, you may grind the rocks with an 80-grit or coarser wheel to remove cracks and flaws in Stage 1. Once your entries are received, our elite panel of judges will then evaluate each entry on the basis of smoothness, shape, shine and overall appeal. The results of the judging will be announced at the Annual Rock and Gem Show of the FRLMS on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM, in Oroville, California. This years prizes are:
1st Place: $250.00 Cash + Perpetual Trophy Inscription + World-Wide Bragging Rights
2nd Place: $100 Cash
3rd Place: Lortone Model 33B Twin Barrel Rock Tumbler
We are hoping that every rock club will sponsor their top tumbler(s) to see just how good they are when matched up against the best of the best. This means that the Reno Gem & Mineral Society is invited to sponsor an entry, as well as the 7 Regional Federations of the AFMS. Moms, Dads and Kids everywhere are hereby invited to send in an application--someone has to win--it might as well be you! And you tumblers in Hawaii, Australia, Mexico, France, England and Germany--send us your best rock tumblers. This includes all you internet tumblers--its time to quit blogging about how good you are and put your rock tumbling skills to the supreme test! We are asking all Lapidary Shops and Equipment Manufacturers to post this notice so all their customers hear about this first-ever contest. And one day, well be on the front cover of Rock & Gem Magazine! If you would like more information about this contest, please log on to www.orovillerocks.com .
