I told Amber I would do a Amber tutorial for her.
What you need.
Wet/dry sandpaper, 220,400,600,1200,2000 grits.
Piece of plexy glass or board. 2 paper clips to hold sandpaper. Small tub for water, and some leather. And of course some Amber. This can be done on a cab unit. But do your first by hand, to get the feel of Amber. I did this watching the hockey game.
Start with 220, for the shaping. Sand the back flat.
The piece had a small crack in it that I tried to sand out, but I just chased it more in to the piece. So enough of that, so I started on the other.
After sanding the back. Start your free form. I like to start my bevel as I shape.
Once you have the shape you want, draw your lines.
Now start your bevels just like any other cab.
I used an extra line on this one. Its a thick piece. With a very high dome.
You do not have to be perfect with your shape. All sanding processes will round it out To help round them I hold my paper like this.
Move up through your papers and repeat the above.
I only did up to 600 by hand. The rest on my cab unit.
Lots of water. My daughter took that pic. This was next on my camera.
Polish time.I used the stiff leather of one of my gloves You do this dry, so be careful not to over heat the Amber. It will crack. Rub slow and easy on the pressure.
**NEW** Forgot one part, I past
After polish is done, I use Mothers wax to protect the amber. Amber does not like UV light. UV will destroy Amber. So don't leave it in the sun for a long time, or it will turn into dust.
The finished cabs, I finished the 2 that I started before I hacked my thumb with the table saw.
Here is the good part. Susan2, which of the two other would you like? The one you don't pick, goes to Amber Your choice.
Hope everyone will enjoy this, I'm not that good at tutoring.
