Pulled a load of wonderstone out of the tumbler today. I got this rock from a local pet shop. I always look at the rocks at the pet shops but never paid attention to what it was until getting into tumbling and reading other people buy there too. Then the rock hit me and I paid closer attention the next time I went lol. I see I could have ran a few more cycles of 60/90, but oh well, they polished up pretty good anyway. Thanks for looking, Nate close up of a few of the good ones

You know, wonderstone is no walk in the park to polish and you did that batch up real fine.....Mel

Thanks guys! It turned out better that I figured it would. I thought it was a softer stone.

I have several big chunks of wonderstone. I haven't done anything with it because I also thought it was a softer stone. In fact, was told by an old timer rock hound to just tumble them with water, no grit or they would just fall apart.
Sure doesn't look like yours fell apart and you got a great shine.
Inspires to me get out, bust up some of mine and get it rolling.

They look great!!!
I have a couple of larger pieces (about 3-4") of raw Wonderstone and will eventually try to tumble them as well.
I too did not know that they took any type of a shine.
As always Julie

Looks like your batch was a bit harder than the normal stuff. I think it can range from 4 to a 6. It all really looks great so you did a wonderful job with your wonder stone ;D Fran

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I took them to work to show them off and gave a bunch away. Everyone loved them. FYI, I just tumbled these like any other. The normal 4 step program.

Those wonderstone tumbles are mighty nice, ndk. Beautiful patterns! I have a box of wonderstone rough but never tumbled it before. Do you have any suggestions for a polishing compound?
Thanks!

Please post your method. I also scored a large piece of Wonderstone from PetsVille of all places for a heck of a deal. It was meant for someone's reptile tank.
The piece I have is very hard, but also very brittle. I tried to cut it and it wants to fracture along some of the flow bands.

Thanks guys! As far as my method, It was the normal 4 step recipe like advertised on here. Several weeks (I think I ran 4 weeks but could have ran some of them longer) of coarse grind, followed by a week each of fine, prepolish, and then polish. Then I ran a 24 hr burnish and got what you see here. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly what I have for polish, it's a white powder I get from a local hobby shop, and it's just marked "polish". I keep wanting to ask them what it is, but forget when I'm there lol. I did smash this rock with a hammer and chisel, and was a little disappointed in how it broke apart, but all in all it came out nice.
