Howdy, Just a few reruns for some of you that may not have seen them. This first bunch of slabs shows just how good one of my favorite cabbing materials, Oaxaca travertine, can get. It's a softer material so it won't tumble but cabs easily and polished to a mirror finish. And my favorite plume agate/ jasper. I'd call some plume jasper because it's not translucent. This is fluorite Mine Plume from the north Cady Mountains in California. It comes in nodules and veins and is very cool stuff. Thanks for looking....Mel A rough nodule broken to show interior plume: Couple of vein jasper slabs. One cut parallel to the plume, one across the plumes:

Wow, that's some nice stuff. The travertine has some really wild patterns. The Cady mountain plume with the yellow plumes in red background is great and I bet would cut nice cabs. From the pics it looks like the plumes wouldn't undercut or pull. I'm enjoying your collection posts. Dan

Dan, I still haven't cabbed the Cady's Plume but Ed ( stoner ) has with good success. I have tumbled the stuff from about four different veins and it polishes up nicely. Some I've slabbed, does have incompletely silicified plumes that are too soft but if you pick your slab, it is nice stuff. The nodule I've pictured is especially agatized and translucent. Man, I gave my gem club a couple of whopper nodules of that stuff before I moved to Texas. Never had a saw big enough to slice them up. Here's some tumbled..Mel
