Long time no post for me, life happens, fish start biting, and equipment needs repaired.
A few things really put a damper on my tumbling awhile back.
Got elected to the board of Directors for a Nebraska Outdoors site (fishing, hunting etc...)
Started really helping out a non-profit group about resposible fishing (recycledfish.org). Who knew the winter would be a busy time for a fishing organization, but it's the best time to do the busy work!
And finally, and possibly the worst, the threaded rod on my UV-10 go so stripped that I can no longer screw the bowl or the lid down.
It was one of those things where i thought to myself "I'll look at fixing it next week or so". :nono: And now it's almost 6 months later. What can I do to fix this? Tap and Die set? I thought about replacing it, but lack the tools to get into some of the spots it looks like it would take to get to it.
Any tips?
on a side note, I may not have posted, but went to lurker status, and drooled and drooled over the great pictures every now and then.
Thanks, Alex

Hi Alex, welcome back! Don't know if you've tried this or not, but you can pile washers up to get to better threads to get the grip you need to tighten. This prolongs the inevitable for a good while. Sooner or later I will have to replace mine too, so thanks for asking the question. Jo

Just went through this on my UV10. Call Al at 1-800-225-1017 He will sell you the parts needed and tell you how to remove the old one. Not that hard to do.

You can replace it yourself with some 1/4" all thread rod that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. Cut it to the length you need. I used double nuts tightened against each other on the bottom side of where the rod come through the platform. I also used loktite blue (the one that does not require a torch to get loose) on all he nuts.
You also might consider beefing it up to a 3/8" all thread rod. That's what did to my Harbor Freight vibe and the courser thread holds up better.

Something like this can keep you going until you get spare parts.Just about any clamp you have should work.On the inside maybe a tiny c-clamp.I thought of drilling and tapping the spring clamp tip but haven't got around to trying it yet. Mike

Rockdewd, you encouraged me to take a second look, and after undoing a few screws and nuts, not as difficult as I thought. Thanks, I should be able to have it running by tomorrow night. Now then, to unbury everything in the mean time......
