This is my first batch - just took them out of the 500 grit today. Going for "pre-polish" next. Mostly jasper and agate and a couple of "road rocks". Not sure the pictures are very good, but taking a shot at it Part batch (couldn't keep them wet long enough to photograph) A little closer Little pieces trimmed off bigger rocks Thanks for looking. Hi Barb, Them are going to get a real gloss finish,
I would have prefered to see them dry as at this stage they should show a slight polish (at the polishing stage) ,
Look forward to seeing them finished.

Hi Jack Thanks for the comment. The stones look smooth but not much of a polish when they are dry. They also have some cracks now that I didn't see when I put them in the 500...even though I put lots of plastic pellets in this round. Since this is my first batch, I'm hoping I'll learn more each time. Already have gotten a lot of tips from this board - especially (I think) YOUR notes on the tumbling process. Will post pictures when these are fnished, if I'm not too embarrassed :-) Barb

Barb, not to worry. They're looking good, you're doing great and I'm looking forward to seeing these finished. Jo

This last part is sometimes the tricky part where you do get chips and cracks from the stones hitting each other. Add even more pellets and run the full amount of time (week or more) in the 500 and make sure you do a good wash in between before going to polish. I think they will really turn out glassy the way they are looking now! Fran

Fran is right, and it might not hurt to take a toothbrush to any spots that might still be holding onto some grit from the earlier run. Jo

Thank you both. I ran the 500 grit for 10 days - I did use a toothbrush between 120/220 and the 500, and again yesterday. Since I didn't get them transferred yesterday, thinking I should do a borax run for a few hours before putting in the pre-polish? I do have a new drum to use for the pre-polish. Barb
