I kinda, sorta volunteered to help my neighbors little girl with her science project for next Thursday. She is in the fifth grade.
She wants to do some type of display on how tumbling in its many stages in a short period of time can do the same thing as Mother Nature over thousands of years.
If any of you have any suggestions … I am all ears.
All I have is raw rock in various stages of tumbling and will try to put together some kind of simple explanation. I am also trying to put together some type of simple and easy for fifth graders to understand when it comes to the MOHS scale and how it effects rocks. I tend to explain things in terms of adult understanding. I do not have a lot of dealing with kids. That’s probably why I agreed to help with the kids at the Conejo Gem & Mineral annual show next week (May 16th & 17th).
My big thanks as always !

I saw a nice display at a show one time. The person displayed a tumbler and grit and rocks in little piles across in order of rough, after step 1,2,3, etc. with polished pebbles last. I would think you would need to collect some river/beach rocks for the project then show a tumbled duplication in each step.
