Hey all,
Ive got some natural druzy specimens I would like to wrap.....but Ive never tried that wrapping style.. Im used to having everything mapped out on paper and then my bundle of wires all nice and neat with tape etc. Not quite sure how to "attack" a natural specimen.
Any methods/advice?
Thanks,
Shannon

Hey Shannon, I'm planning to do something similar this weekend with some rounded bubble agate pieces (preparing them now). I think I'm going to do a three wire wrap with the bind at the bottom center and small prongs that wrap around the outer edge on the front. The back I may criss-cross or duplicate the front. Of course, this is subject to change as I do them. Hope this helps. Jo

No Jo, that didnt help. But by no fault of yours LOL. Im used to wrapping a set "even" shape so these specimens have me lost. I swear, Im ready to take a piece of wire and just wind it around it.......if it wouldnt look like crap that is. Which it would. lol

Shannon, Could you show a pic of what your trying to wrap? On the little agate nodules I kind of make a little basket to hold the back, which pretty much leaves the front open for anything... I'm just a visual type of guy, so with a pic I might be able to come up with something....

Jeremy, those are beautiful wraps. Shannon, I love wrapping natural drusies. Post a pic as each natural has its own curves.
I bet if you just start out the way you normally do, say three straight wires bound in the middle, when you put the bundle up against the stone, the stone will kind of tell you how you should proceed.
Don't bother trying to sketch it out this time, just go with the flow.
I hope you post a pic, I'd love to see it.

I wrap my druzy very similar to what Jeremy posted. Just start as usual and let it flow without too much wire over the druzy, just enough to hold it. I also grind the back fairly flat. Ken
