I have one Lortone 3A, two 33B, and two QT66s, all purchased (happily) from The Rock Shed.
Think about the QT66 - having two 6 lb. barrels give you more flexibility than just one 12.

I have a couple of Lortones. I got both of them used.
I suggest checking for used equipment @ rock shows, clubs, & shops. Of course, you could ask in the buy, sell, swap area of this board. You could also ask on some of the Yahoo! lapidary groups.
I got one of my tumblers (QT-6) @ a show in Park Hills, Missouri. I got the other from some one in a Yahoo! group. A very generous person offered to send me his old tumbler free if I would pay for shipping & get a motor for it. It holds a 12-pound barrel & two 6-pound barrels.

Greetings "Sabre52", a few questions. 1: What is the 8.16kg (18lb) MRJ? 2: Are the QT12 & QT66 barrels interchangeable? It appears to me the base unit is the same & it is just different barrel configurations, just like my 3lb beach 2x 0.68kg (1.5lb) or 1x 1.36kg (3lb). 3: Where did you get them? Ejs: Yes i tried the Rock Shed on the web for both QT12 & QT66, but the killer is their automatic Priority Mail International & on the basic bits it is $172.50 for a $559.80 order, i could possibly arrange a cheaper alternative postage by contacting them! Also i am looking for other Lapidary vendors that ship to the United Kingdom, send web links via PM as posting them on an open forum most likely is breaking RTH's T&C's! Thank you to all that has replied so far! -- I hail from (The Barony of Seabegs) Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, U.K, where aliens sometimes come for a visit & about 4 miles west from this monstrosity! Shipping to U.K. (or anywhere out of U.S. is etremely expensive. Anything small enough to ship by USPS is generally about half what UPS charges. Most vendors (legitamate) make nothing or $5 handling charge on shipping. Shipping is based on weight and package size. Customs fees are generally paid by customer when package arrives.
I have an AR-2, and AR-6 Thumlers, a QT-66 Lortone, a Mini-Sonic 10 lb. with 10 and 2 - 4 lb. hoppers all bought used and a Minisonic KG-1 (2.2 lb. now discontinued) my grand daughter won in a show raffle on a ticket I bought for her and she sold me for $40.
The QT66 and QT 12 are same tumblers with different drums. If I keep the QT66 I'll buy a 12 lb drum for larger loads. Seemslike a versatile choice to me.

Hi Andrew, You might try this firm I deal with www.stonepolishing.co.uk/Paul is very helpfull One was given to me A small Rock Star Which started me off 10 years ago I also have a small Beach I have made my own well , 3 actualy I used a Central heating furnice motor and block board also one from a design from Agate house Ulverstone , (lake District) I use plastic wheels from a push chair (with the rubber thread cut off) as a pulley And use 4 1/2 lb rubber Lortone barrel I also have a rubber Thumbler 4 1/2 lb barrel but prefer the quick opening Lortone barrel (I have had a few leaks from the Thumbler even with a new rubber seal) Try the above link --- even if they are more expensive , if you get one from USA 1 - you have to get a 220 motor (bit more expensive) -- 2 - overseas Post and packing-- then 3 - customs & Import duty here I got a L0t"O" from USA 2years ago so I have experianced it, Jack Yorkshire UK PS A lot"O" 3 1/2 lb from USA (Rock shed ) is STILL a good buy over the years you save a tremendus lot of grit as well as electricity , (using it from stage 2 that is 220Grit To final polish in just over a week !!) I havent seen them for sale in UK John (Jack Yorkshire UK)

I have my 87lb mega tumbler: Below it I've got a QT66/QT12 on standby. I have a Lortone 1.5 up on the rack for repairs. For vibe tumblers I have a UV-10 and UV-18 and a Harbor Freight 5 lb that has been modified. Keeps my shop humming... Rick

I run 5 3-pounders. One is a lortone, the other are older ones (sears, scott murray, etc) and a thumblers modified to accept a lortone barrel. All those I aquired used over the years except for the lortone which I have had since I was younger.
I also run a ~30 pound homemade tumbler. It's got two large hex barrels on it. I was able to make it for about $100 minus the barrels. Oh and don't forget... I set two tumblers too close together one day by accident and ended up with a little 1.5lb baby ;D Steve
