:help: I am very new to the art of Lapidary, in fact, I'm that new that our tumbler hasn't yet arrived at the house. I am very keen to know how a person goes about collecting their own gems. My interest at this point is in Fife agates. I have searched the web but cannot find anywhere that tells you what to look for. Whilst I don't expect to walk onto a beach and pick them up by the kg, it would be nice if I had some idea of what to do. Do you just start smashing at things with a hammer ?. I've no idea. Could somebody please steer me in the right direction. Is there web sites that tell you what to look for and what to do? I'm very keen to get started. Any help would be very much appreciated

Hello and welcome. Are you saying you are in Scotland or are you interested in FIRE agates?

warrant: See if you can find or borrow a copy of the book Agates by Zenz. He has a big section in the book discussing agate locations in Scotland that might help you out.....Mel
