For my first batch that I posted a couple weeks ago I believe that the recipe I followed went 60/90 SiC, 120/220 SiC, 500 AlOx, Tripoli, AlOx polish, optical CeOx. This time I skipped the Tripoli and the CeOx and I swear that I can't tell the difference. Extreme close up! I think this one could be turned into a cab. Future echo stones? This one is awesome but the reds are so dark that I couldn't get a decent photo against the white towel. I think this one is cab worthy too. Thanks for looking -- Scott I originally dropped this thread in the wrong spot. I had the following responses before I moved it: Hi Scott, they are excellent, however with regards to your 1st batch, why did you use 2 different polishes? Normally grits 80, 220, 500, (1000 or Tripoli only for softer stones), then a single polish CeOx, TiOx or AlOx. I'm seeking absolutes. Stone <x> requires <y> steps to achieve best polish. So I'm trying different things, taking notes, taking pictures until I figure things out. My new hypothesis is that CeOx is a waste of time on stones with a hardness of 7 or harder. I've only completed two batches so obviously additional testing is required. whoa yaeh scott! i like the emerald & specially the white & green speckle, the burgundy & rose reminds me of better daze sweet! Ed, I think that's green aventurine that was mixed in the 6 pounds of the Rock Shed's medium tumbling mix. Lots of neat stuff in that mix. I learned a lot from tumbling it.
