Heres some stones my daughter picked out from our first rock hunting trip at one of the local beaches a few weeks ago.They were pretty smooth to start with so I ran them in 60/90 in a rotary for a week,then into the vibe at 220 four days and 500 four days.I'm not sure if I should use cerium or AO for the polish because they are of mixed hardness.I also have some Lusterite I and II I might try,the rocks are free and plentiful so I might do a little experimenting just for fun.

We went back a couple times since we found these and I got the kids to be a little more picky before tossing anything they find into the bag,I've got them trained pretty good now so I should be posting some much more colorful rocks next time.I ran out of 60/90 after this batch but have 50 lbs on the way.

Hi Mudshark,

I'm in Connecticut as well and just started tumbling. Those are some nice beach rocks - I'll have to check out some of the beaches as well. Have you ever checked out any of the local rivers or streams to see what they might contain?

ct1001,so far I've only collected at the local beach.I did a little research on the web and there are quite a few spots in Ct. that are good for collecting.The batch posted here was from our first trip.We went back a few more times and the rocks we came back with were more colorful because we got more selective.After cutting a few we learned what to look for so the next batches I post should show the difference.If you want to PM me I'll let you know what I found on the web.
