Couldn't get the boat into the river again. So we just hunted by foot. Was walking along, next thing I hear my hunting partner scream. Then something hit the heal of my boot. Looked back and this is what I saw. Looks pissed off, and was playn his music, after not before I almost steped on him. Glad he had bad aim. The snakes were out in full force, hand 5 close encounters today. Dam they blend in well on the prairie.

On a construction site, we wear "Green Patch" boots that provide steel toes, steel shank, and electrical shock insulation.
I'd love to see what kind of safety stickers you put on your desert boots.
How can you possibly retire an old pair of boots like that, after they have saved you time and time again. It would be like shooting your favorite dog. Those boots deserve a place!

That's one Big-Bad-Ass. I see several of them a year while hiking in the mtns. Fortunately for me...they rattle and warn me before I get on top of them...although my brother and i have had a few close encounters. I guesss it's that time of year though. If it's not the ticks..it's the rattlers. Glad you didn't have shorts and sandals on! Steve

Oh man, I've also been thankful for my snakeproof boots a time or two. Really gets the old blood going when you feel that slap against the leather and then hear the buzz *L* That's one really pretty snake too. Great camo and much lighter than I'm used to seeing except with sidewinders out on the Mojave...Mel

Boy is he coiled tight and looking like he is ready to strike again. I am glad you had those boots on. Snakes are cool but I am so glad my neck of the woods doesn't have the kind that shake a rattle.

I have weak ankles, so I always have my steel toe high tops on when I collect. Plus to many cactus. There is also scorps and Blackwidows there to. Thats the closest I have come to being bit.

Well it got my ticker goin that for sure. Found out why there was so many of them. A friend who has an uncle that lives close by. Says they are just leaving there dens from the winter hibernate. Only seen 2 in my life before that day. They were the last thing on my mind. Will be keepin a better eye out from now on.
Shannon if you stay at least there body length away, they can't reach you to bite. They are easy to take pic's of. They just sit there and rattle. Sounds so cool.

I think I will leave that one for you Ken. Easy to find, right beside the snake. Banded sandstone BTW.
