This is known and expected wear on Thumler's plastic lids. The lid thins at the center to the point of failure. It shows that your machine has been hard at work. Check your lids periodically for wear.
I put large adhesive numbered decals (#1 through #6) on my lids to keep the barrels striaght for the various stages. The decal actually holds the thinning lid together. It will still fail, but not as catastrophically. More like a slow leak.
Fun to clean up, eh?

I glued a circle of vinyl carpet runner to my AR6 lid just smaller in diameter by 3/8" when I notice the thinning was about to hole through. It sits on the outside of the lid. I glued it on with Elmer's Ultimate high performance glue. The inside of the lid has worn away in a 1 1/2" circle but does not leak on the outside. I only use this lid and generally this tumbler for coarse tumbles. I will try gluing 1/4" rubber gasket material to the inside of a new lid and see how it fares. The Elmer's glue is the type that will bubble and expand as it sets so you have to use masking tape on the edge of the lid to keep it clean. A thin coat of this glue goes a long way. I guess this also qualifies as home made equipment.

As 150 from Fundy said, This is Standard Operating Procedure for Thumler Lids, Some people try patches, others just buy more lids from Al Thumler. There have been a few threads where members shared their secrets to extending the lives of the lids but I'm not sure if it is worth the effort. If you patch the inside of the lid you must be careful to have a good bond all around the edges or the tumbler action will quickly move grit and water into any imperfections.
