Here is some light blue material I am trying to ID. I know it comes from Arizona, but I don't know where. I got this piece from someone who knows a spot in Arizona to collect it, but he will not disclose the spot. It's a light blue color and has a somewhat soft white'ish material on the outside. It almost resembles Lamar in colors. Here is the polished side: Here is the unpolished rough side: Any assistance in ID would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like turqouise to me. I will send Jamie (desertdweller) a pm to have Rodney (rkdgr) take a look. He is the expert on Arizona Blue rock!

A couple of others things come to mind along with turquoise is gem silica and also Hemimorphite.
What ever it is, it is gorgeous.

Looks like its from Chalk Mountain, out by Sheep's Crossing. If its actually from Arizona, that is the only place I know of that has material that looks like that.
At the very top of the mountain there is a small cave that has been created by rock hounds that were plucking away at the seam of turquoise that runs horizontally across the top of the Mountain. The stuff we collected there was much greener but Rodney said up a little higher you can find the light blue material like you have in the photo. Chalk Mountain is the only white mountain in the whole area, you can't miss it if you were to go looking for it.
The road to get there is a real bitch though, I swore I'd never do that to my truck again, I opted to get out and walk part of the way..............I think it was faster and so much smoother.

Thank's for the ID. From what you said, I'd bet that's what I have. The guy I got it from is not a rockhound, but is a hiker. He used to go hiking all over AZ. He said this stuff was collected in a cave on one of his AZ hikes. I bet he hiked up the top of Chalk Mountain and carried a bucket of the stuff back down. Thanks for the ID. Next time I run into the guy, I'm going to ask him a few more questions about the location again although I already know he doesn't want to tell me exactly where he found it.
Yes, I'm in Arizona. I live in the Verde Valley.
