Tony and I are going, bad knee or not, so if any of you want anything is particular, perhaps PM me your cell phone, if you can receive pics I can send them to you over your phone, and see if you want us to bid. Anything I get of interest I will resell on here for my cost plus shipping. Looks like lots of great stuff, so I got my cousin's pick up to load up! Look at the link, there are saws, tumblers, a cab machine, etc. "Please pass the following information on to your fellow members. There will be a total liquidation auction of a lapidary shop on May 23rd in Lewistown, Pa. See www.chesneyauction.com for pictures and additional information. Included will be more than 20 milk cases of raw and polished stone such as: petrified rock, tiger eye, jasper, opal, turquoise, herkimer diamond, agates, picture rock, and nearly 100 others" Amber

The auction was something else! The old man had a rock shop and had LOTS of rocks, and there were plenty of rock hounds there to keep the bidding going. It was a shame that the auction company had no clue what things were. The equipment was almost entirely homemade, so I didn't feel comfortable buying any of it for anyone on here, plus it was all huge and shipping would have been a problem. I did get a small, lapidary trim saw, and the 18" saw went for $350, again you couldn't test it and it was huge! The rocks were nice, I got Amber, malachite, amethyst, crazy lace, lagunas, Opals, turquise, tampa bay coral, slabs, fossils, wood, a huge hunk of azurite in malachite that he bought in the 1950's, a huge hunk of green imperial jasper, sivler sheen obsidian, hidden valley jasper, etc etc. The assorted slabs were incredible. We got a box of books, interesting old articles on collecting in UT and AZ. Poor Tony loaded lots of rocks, and then 2 men from our club was there, so he helped the old guys! When my knee is working better, I will get out there to my shed and take lots of pics! Together we spent $363, and got a lot of nice material. The one old man that Tony helped offered to let us come over and cut rocks on his saw, so Tony's muscles paid off! We got all these big rocks and no way to cut them, LOL. It was a fun day and nice to see so many people interested in the hobby, especially young kids.

Sounds like you had a real blast plus got some real nice treasures. I had thought long and hard about trying to make it there but it would have been about an 8 hour round trip and finally chickened out and stayed home.

I'm glad you came back with some good rocks and a way to get them slabbed. That had to have been fun. Did you get into a bidding war for any of the individual items?

Well people were bidding on everything, it was funny, like a tray of clear slag went for $32, and I got 5 pounds of lagunas for $7. Many people were buying the tumbled stones and slabs he had and he had pages of finished cabs, there were 2 people that have shops there and they were the buggers I had to fight with. I tried to just bid on the stuff I really liked, and I like slabs, rather than huge rocks to cut, and he had boulders. I thought the jars of opals I got for $19 were a deal, a jar of honduran and mexican fire opal. The petrified wood he had was really nice and that went pretty high. I cheapened out on some things, but overall was pretty happy! I noticed when I got to the second card of items that Tony had better start adding it all up! I could have easily spent $1000 or more! I had to get a grip! LOL

AT least Amber you didn't do what I did a couple of years ago and buy the whole thing that took me 6 weeks to move. Donna

Man! I'm soooo jealous. Wish I could have been there. But, somehow the west coast to PA for an auction, just didn't seem cost effective. Can't wait to see some pics. JoAnne
