Hi everyone...ive been on here for a few weeks now and im really getting the ITCH.....But i was wondering? I have several spots ide go to find smaller agates which are fun and i love finding them....
But i dont really know what else there is out there to look for...stuff out in the wild that i probably walk over everyday in the woods.....can you help?
Also I am from the tri-cities area, but am stationed at the moment in Port angeles...so really anywhere in washington and specially in the olympic penninsula is easy for me....
I guess im also wondering if anyone is doing and field trips or rock trips up here on the penninsula and if they might be willing to let me tag along or maybe meet up with me afterwords and kind of show me what i should look for.....
Also if you guys might be able to point me in a better direction that would be cool...being up here in the penninsula has me lost when it comes to looking for rocks? And i really havent been able to find anything....or more like i dont know what i should be looking for up here....
Any nice rocks up here i need to look for? THANKS GUYS! JAY

Hey Jay,
Cant say Ive spent much time up there. The only suggestion I have is that I found some interesting rocks in the San Juans. Cant say I remember which island I was on LOL. But there was a beach called Agate Beach. Although agate isnt real common anymore, the beach is absolutely covered in interesting rocks. I posted what I found. When Im done working today I will find my post so you can look.

We collected quite a bit of nice jasper and agate along some of the public beaches on the northwest part of the Olympic peninsula. You can also find snail, clam and crab fossils in the Sekui area (sp?). Pick a low tide after a storm, I think spring is the best. I've also heard you can find Sagenite at Pillar Point in one of the creeks.

Jay: You might check into the Port Angeles rock club. I know some of the members and they are very well informed on collecting spots.
Also there is orbicular jasper up by Lake Cresent. I think the site is described in the Washington Gem Trails book. You will need to keep out of the National Park though, since collecting is not allowed there.

Jay,
They are all pictured wet, just as I found them on the beach. Honestly, Im not really sure what most of them are, there was such a variety littered all over. The funny thing was, there were people at the beach looking for agates since it is called "Agate Beach". Most were obviously not collectors, they were just there because they saw the sign. They were passing up all the beautiful rocks because they were simply looking for agates........and there I was scooping up as many as I could for cabbing/tumbling.
