This isnt finished but since it takes me so dang long to finish anything, I thought I would post the progress. Cab by Dennis/wolfden, Chain Mail bracelet by Shannon/weeshan The chain mail weave is Dragonscale, a bit fidgety to start but not too bad once you get it going. I probably have 5 solid hours into it and its only half done. This one is in stainless steel. The amazing thing about the Dragonscale weave is that it actually does move/flex like reptile scales. The beautiful shiny cab was a gift from Dennis... it will be border wrapped in chain mail and incorporated into the bracelet. Thanks for lookin! I will post pics when its done.....like 2 years from now LOL ;D Shan

Beautiful, Shannon! I haven't yet tried to do any dragonscale. I just ordered some Inconel rings, which I'm excited to try out. I've got to get some stainless sometime, too. Silver is a bit pricey to play with all the time. I can't wait to see it finished!

That dragonscale is beautiful! I can't imagine how much patience it must take to weave chain mail. I still haven't managed a single jump ring without mangling it... Can't wait to see this finished and how you incorporate the cab!

Thanks everyone!
Nichole........stainless is my favorite metal to use for chain mail. Its just so versatile and easy to care for. I have bracelets I wear all the time....while working, showering.....everything. Its just so easy to maintain compared to other metals. I make all of my own rings......stainless is a pain in that its too hard to use with my Koil Kutter so I have to cut each ring individually by hand.

My dad owns a machine shop, and he and I have been working on making me a jump ring cutting machine. It'll be like a very small table saw, where the entire table, which has the coil clamped on, is moved. I'm super excited to get it working, as I'm just buying all of my rings right now. Are you cutting your SS rings with a jewelers saw or nippers?

Nichole, I get all of my wire from The Ring Lord theringlord.com/Me and jeweler's saws do not get along well. I have tried every which way and just cannot make it work lol. For stainless, I use the score and break method as it makes for better closures than cutting the normal way with wire cutters. Shan

That bracelet is great looking by itself. I hope you put pics up when you finish. I have never tried chainmaile either but what you have made makes me want one. I like the fact that stainless is basically maintenance free.

I'll be sure to order some stainless next time I order. I'm hoping the Inconel has a color similar to stainless. It's supposed to. We'll see when it gets here.

Shannon you use "score & break" man you got patience - someone on the ring lord forum had a set up with a saw blade.
Just push the coil through and Shazzam! In the blink of an eye 50 coils are cut & ready for use. (Martin I think had this set up - he's selling it but it shouldn't be too hard to do something similar)
I can't wait to see how this turns out! It'll surely be a head-turner once it is - and I agree - dragonscale is super slinky and ultra flexible - much more than it looks and YES stainless is a b"/$h to work with but the durability and cleanliness is a no-brainer

Hmmm Tweet.......a setup to cut stainless. I might have to ask Dennis to brainstorm on that one. I have also heard that although you cant cut stainless with a dremel and Koil Kutter, you CAN with a Foredom and he has two of those so maybe that will work. Since stainless is my favorite to work with, I really do need to come up with something other than score and break. But the results are so much better than just nipping. I generally sit with a bunch of coils while watching tv....its not too bad.

Very cool!
Patience indeed ... chainmail is at the bottom of my list of things to learn as you do need a great deal of patience.
As always Julie

The feed rate should be pretty slow for stainless, too. So you'd have to keep the speed way down and be sure to keep everything well-lubed.

Thanks Nancy! Dennis is a super handyman. He took a look at the Ringinator and said "no problem, I can make you one in a day or two". Looks like I have my stainless coil cutting woes taken care of. Woohoo!!! And thank you wolf dear for offering to make it for me. Should save a lot of wear and tear on my hands/arms that are already dealing with tendonitis issues. Coiling/cutting stainless by hand is really a pain, quite literally. Shan
