Alright i think i am way doing something wrong......So im pretumbling my rocks in sand and then going to move onto the next step but after reading a couple posts and recipes from yorkshire i have noticed that you basically dont need anymore than about 2 tablespoons of sand in the vibe to get it going.....
Currently i have alot more.....ALOT.....i have about 1/4 of my vibe barrel full of rocks and i basically filled it half full of sand....and added a spoonful of water.....
Boy i feel like an idiot.....lol....Ill get it guys i promise.....
So i am out the door to empty my barrel and put in 2 spoonfuls of sand and thats it......then hopefully ill see something working....LOL......
SET ME STRAIGHT GUYS.....IM A NEWBIE.....LOL

Depending on the hardness of the stuff your tumbling, quartz sand may have little effect on your load. Quartz sand is actually mostly a little softer or the same hardness as agate and jasper and it will take a long long time to round your stones. Silicon carbide is the preferred grit as it's much harder than quartz and will grind your rocks more effectively. If you're grinding stones much softer than the sand, it may round your stones OK but then softer stones are more difficult to polish too....Mel

They say that patience is the companion of wisdom. Add 4 tablespoons of silicon carbide to that and you'll be smarter and your rocks will be rounder.

I'd leave sand on the beach for romantic walks. If you are using a vibe tumbler wash the rocks well and start with 120/220 grit. The vibe will maintain shapes pretty much so you won't get rounded pebbles. Use a filler like ceramic media up to 1/3 the mix and fill the tumbler up to the top. Damp not wet also.

I find I get the best action in my vibe if I'm between 2/3 and 3/4 full....
