Here is an Owyhee cab I made, then wrapped it in black leather to make a pendant.

Nice idea. The black really sets off the scene.

I repeat...neat idea. I like that way of mounting the stone. Good job. Ken

I like this idea! What type of glue did you use?

I used 2 different types of glue. For the stone, I used shoe glue. For the leather I used Aleene's tacky glue. I'm planning to make a bunch of these since they seam pretty easy to make.

Did you glue the cab onto the front piece of leather, let it dry, then glue the back piece of leather on?
Does the Aleene's glue remain flexible, so that the outer rim of the leather doesn't become hard?
I'm wondering if there's a single adhesive that would work. Maybe just clear, pure silicone?

Just the shoe glue by itself would work just fine. I used the tacky glue because it dries faster. Neither make the leather hard.
Here is how I made it.
Take two pieces of leather. Lay one down flat. Apply shoe glue to the back of the stone and stick it on. Apply tacky glue all around the stone and a small bit on the edge.
Now, take the second piece and stick the two pieces together. Using your fingers apply pressure around the stone making sure the stone is smashed between the two pieces of leather.
Let it dry and using a sharp utility knife cut the outer leather and cut a hole in the top piece to expose the stone.
It's actually pretty sturdy. I had to pry quite hard to remove a stone on a piece I messed up.

Where does one obtain shoe glue???
This thread and the braided leather cab thread made me think that there may actually be "jewelry" that even I can make! Julie sent me two boxes stuffed with leather, and I have LOTS of "Agate Wrappers". I have neighbors who are world-class whip-makers, and they may have some ideas, too! Hmmm...

LOL - once Julie sees this thread, she might not be sending leather out anymore!

Michael John: You can get shoe glue from tons of places. The stuff I used is called Shoe Goo. Try Walmart or Ace Hardware. It comes in a red tube. Here is a link to the exact stuff I used: www.classicsportshoes.com/sof-55295.html

O, I really like this idea and what you made. There are so many femine designs for pendants and it is great to see a newly created masculine design. Thanks tons for sharing.
