That's right, I am crazy! There, I said it! I walked in to the rock room this evening (yes, they have their own room) and decided I really needed to give it a good cleaning. It gets pretty dusty and needs everything dusted and vacuumed but I really didn't know where to start. Once I looked around I realized I am really crazy! When you walk in the first thing you see are the tumblers at the far wall. Next to the tumblers, I have a ton of cabs, ready to be dopped. That stack on the right, it is three trays high. This table has a lot of my slabs on it and a few finished cabs. Below the table sits all my tumbling rocks and slabs that I have been cutting lately...I spend a lot of time sitting on the floor here Next to the table, I have these storage containers...About half has rough rock and the other half has finished tumbles. Some dopped preforms, ready to work. I have slowly been working through this batch. It was completely full at one point. A very full plate of rough preforms needing to be shaped. Some jasper I had gotten from Jamie. I want to shape these before tumbling them. My poor little grinder, taking a break These are all ready to go to the 600 flat lap. I took them off the dop sticks to work the backs. After the backs are done with 600 I will re dop them and continue. Here is a favorite slab from Tony, Catmandewe that I have not wanted to cut yet. I really like the freaky looking guy in the slab. I am afraid I may loose him if I grind it. Time will tell. So, as you can see, I am crazy. Can't seem to finish anything before I move on and start on something else. People keep asking me what I have finished and I say, nothing really. , Maybe one day I will make myself finish things to the point I like them and feel I have done my best. Well, back to cleaning. Fran

Heck, that looks pretty clean to me!! I had to move the guest bed out of the guest bedroom, it is now the rock room and we have no guest bedroom anymore. I even gave the bed away.
Careful with that slab, it is softer than it looks. I played with some of it a few weeks ago, it will polish, but it grinds really fast. I vibed some of that and it came out really nice.
Keep it up, you are making progress......................Tony

Well ... if the pics are post-cleaning, you're fine. But if the pics are before cleaning and you intend to make it cleaner than that ... yup, you've "lost it".

Fran: You crack me up!! You are so funny! Well the main thing is as long as you enjoy the time you spend cutting, preforming, whatever that is the main thing, you seem pretty organized though, it is so hard deciding what to do with the time allowed for the hobby. It all gets overwhelming, I find I have to really focus or I would never get anything done! I think hubby needs to get you a Genie!!!

Nice set up and organization. The only thing that appears to be missing is where is your mountian of rough material and saw, or do you start with slabs?
If you don't copllect and hoard, you addiction is not quite complete. there may be room for further craziness!

Fran, I don't think your crazy at all! Well organized, clean, lots of rocks....just my kind of woman! You have some really neat looking free-forms from the ones I can see. I wish I could cut up a bunch of shapes and get them ready...but I go from one thing to another...like a kid in a candy store not being able to decide what I want. Rest assured though....YOU HAVEN'T lost it. You'll know when you've gone off the deep end too. You start sleeping with your tumblers and placing rocks under your pillows. Steve

Fran, you look like a pretty organized gal! Everything's got a place. I've got stuff strewn all around the house.

Well, I do have all my wire wrap stuff sitting on the dinning table that I have been neglecting. There is also the pile of rock out on my patio that I really want to cut it all up but there are just not enough hours in the day. My tile saw in the shed with the work bench. I bring them outside on good days and go to town on them. On top of it all, we are trying to buy a house...The first one we lost out on to someone else, now we are going for a second one. If we can get this bid accepted. It has a garage that will be mine, all mine! The current owner is a blacksmith and has the garage insulated, air conditioned and extra electrical outlets all over the place! I am trying not go get too excited about this one. It could fall through also. Seems most banks on short sales don't like VA loans because they don't get as much cash up front. We are already pre approved going in. Just a matter of getting a bank to accept it. Oh, I also have my rocks in all planters, and my planting bed...I will have a lot of rock to move if all works out. Fran

Wow! What organization. Wish I could do that. If I preform a cab, I have to see it finished. Hard for me to leave one on the dop in the rough. If the house falls through, I have a 3 bedroom for sale with a 2 car garage with a 10x20 shop inside the back on 2 acres. Also a 2 story packhouse that is 16x20. It is near Greenville, NC. VERY LITTLE SNOW. Ken

Good luck on the bid on the house, Fran! You are not crazy at all. Seeing how you organize your rocks in those drawers is inspiring! I'll bet you spend LOTS of time on the floor with your rocks. What fun! I'll bet that's how you learned so much about tumbling and polishing... sittin' and studyin' and perfectin' your craft. When you decide it's time and you are ready to start banging out those finished cabs... the rest of us are gonna be smiling! Jo
