The brown one appears to be granite with specs of hornblende. If that's what it is, then I hope you collected it yourself and know how to get back there. That stuff is commonly the host to nice agates!
Although it's hard to tell for sure in the pics, it looks like that dark piece has mica inclusions. Aventurine may be a possibilty.

I was just using the chunk of granite for a size and weight comparison on the scale. The green one is what I'm looking to find out about. It definately does have mica of some type of metal inclusions. Its almost a translucent green looking when dry and darker green when wet.

My GUESS would be aventurine.
But back to that other piece ... did you hound it and, if so, do you remember where you hounded it? If so, that's actually something to get more excited about. Agates that form in that stuff are usually "da shiznit"! Hounding it's a lot of work, but MAN is it worth it!

From all the reading I pounded through yesterday its my understanding that Aventurine is found in Brazil, India, Austria, Russia, and Tanzania.
Back to the granite piece that was a chunk that my son dragged home a camping trip a couple of year ago.

My first guess from just the pic would be a shist rich in actinolite ( amphibole shist). Mica shist is a possibility too but the greenish crystals included point more towards actinolite.....Mel

I'm going with the actinolite theory. Have it here in my collecting spot.

Although its not Aventurine.........just wanted to mention that there is lots of Aventurine here in the states too. Its just quartz......with some shimmery mica in it. I pick it up all the time here in Oregon.

What part of nor-cal? Lots and LOTS of serpentine and actinolite - which are often found together. Definitely looks like actinolite to me.

It was at Carnegie SVRA which is located between Tracy and Livermore off Tesla Rd.

I know where Carnegie is there - been stuck in Devil's Hell Hole once myself ;D. That area is like much of Central/Nor-cal coastal areas heavy with serpentine, serpentinite and actinolite.
