This is a fun show! I'm looking forward to going, but I'm not sure whether it will be Friday or Saturday (I'll post again once we decide). I hope a lot of other RTH folks can make it there! I'm skipping my college reunion partly so I can go to this show.
The show is all outdoors and most of the vendors spend the nights at the show, plus vendor fees are very low, so many vendors brings lots of stuff. If you're interested in being a vendor, please call one of the numbers that Chinook listed for more information. Normal spots are full, but overflow spots should be available until the show starts.
Admission to the show is free. Usually, there is a charge to get into the museum, but it is free during the show. The museum holds one of the best mineral collections in the state plus exhibits on lead mining. Some of the specimens were part of a collection that won ribbons at worlds fairs in the early 1900s (including the 1904 fair in St. Louis). (I think it was some of the calcite, but maybe it was the flourite). And I haven't even mentioned the flourescent & phosphorescent room!
Hope to see you there!

I agree with Brad, it really is a fun show. You can find some great deals on rocks and equipment and a lot of stuff to see. Lots of slabs, amethyst cathedrals, jewelry supplies. One guy always has a trailer set up and he will have tons of agates to dig through. You fill up a 5 gallon bucket. He has mostly agates, typically 3 inch to 6 inch pieces with an end cut off or will be cut in half. I can't remember what he charges, but its fun in the fact you get to dig and find what you want. There are a lot more vendors this year than last so far, but there may be cancellations, so let's hope everyone shows up!
When you enter the gate, we will be on the back row to the left (near the porta potties) along the fence line. We have 95% drusy quartz pieces, so that makes us easier to find. Please stop by and introduce yourself!

I'm not sure why Sandy mentioned an "auction". I think there is an auction Saturday night, open only to vendors, but the main show is a normal sale.
I've seen the guy with the trailer, but never looked very closely (afraid I'd spend all afternoon in the trailer!). I think that his agates are slabs, but I'm not sure. I also think that he charges by the pound. There are others selling various rough, slabs, etc.
There are usually a few used tumblers and other machines available. I bought my Lortone QT-6 & a 12# barrel there.

They have auctions all throughout the weekend. It's a silent auction. They put things up on a table that are donated by the vendors at the main large tent near the entrance. Then you go look at them and submit an amount. They will announce over the loud speaker who won. That money is donated to the museum. The one saturday night is for the vendors dinner and its a live auction for that, everyone brings a dish, dang good food last year. I have no idea if anyone is allowed to attend or not, I think it may just be vendors, but I can easily call several people to find out for sure. The auctions done at the show for the public is every few hours or something, I kept missing going to look at the items, but finally got to go up and submit bids. The main show is normal vendors with their items for sale.
Ken & Donna- that is great that you both may show up! I look forward to seeing you guys there! If you want me to find out if there is a space available, let me know and I'll call for you or I'll give you their number! They may have some cancellations by now.

I'm sorry about the one confusing post where I said it's a really fun auction, I meant show. This is why I don't post on here much anymore. The trailer guy will have slabs and actual agates that only have a small end cut off. I'm not going to bother telling his whole story, the larger pieces go quickly, but it's fun to dig around right up to the end. He's a super nice guy and he loves to talk.

Sandy, I'm sorry if my note sounded critical. I don't want to discourage you from posting! I'm glad that you have provided this information about the show, including the auctions.
I'm pretty sure that Saturday night's events are open only to the vendors, but it might be OK for the vendors to invite people. Whoever comes is supposed to contribute to the potluck dinner.
I didn't mean to imply that the trailer guy didn't have agates. I was just saying that I think he has the agates (& other materials) cut into slabs, which makes them even better from my perspective. I think you have spent a lot more time looking through his stuff than I have. So, if you say that he has a mix of slabs, rocks with a cut face, and whole rocks, then I'm certain that is correct.

This is great Snowdog! I'm glad you're setting up there too! You have to tell us where you're at. I don't know what time we will be there. We had planned on going up Thursday evening and setting up and would camp there. There's a chance we have to do a quick dive class Friday morning, if we have t odo that, we won't leave until after that. So we will be up there sometime by Friday afternoon.
We will have probably one white tent, maybe a green tent to, (we have 2 spots) a white mini van or a maroon chevy truck will be our vehicle. Snowdog, are you going to be close to us??? Back far left from entrance???

Ken - I'm not sure of my schedule yet. If we come on Saturday, I expect we'll be there most of the afternoon at least. I'm not coming as a vendor, so I'll be roaming around. (BTW, there's a place to "get rid of coffee" in the building w/ the museum. You can coll off there, too, if it is hot. You'll joy seeing some great specimens in the museum as well!)
Snowdog - I'm not clear on the details of the overflow area. I suggest asking Betty Marler or Boneta Hensley. As understand it, those spots are close to the entrance, so they're good for selling, but those vendors are not allowed to stay overnight. I'm not sure if that means they have to completely clear out each evening or if they just cannot camp there. Again, Betty & Boneta can explain it.
Stuff I'm looking for? I'd love to find a nice ocean jasper pendant to give Gwen for our anniversary next month (shhh! don't tell her!) Other than that, I'm basically a cheapskate! I enjoy looking a lot at shows. Most of my collection has something to do with some form of quartz (crystals, agates, jaspers, etc., etc.), so I'm always looking for something quartzy that's a little different but inexpensive. I also like pet wood. I have lots of tumbler rough on hand, but always have an eye out for more, especially microcrystalline quartz (agates, etc.) pieces that my wife will be able to wire-wrap (little pieces of slabs are ideal!).
See y'all this weekend!

We will be there tomorrow afternoon as well snowdog! I don't know how the overflow area works either. I know Betty said there may be some last minute cancellations to, so you never know about that. I hope you don't have to tear down each night, that would stink! We will get it figured out! We will be camping unless we sell tons and tons the first day ;D Can't wait to meet you!

We're planning to be there most of the day tomorrow (Saturday). I'm not a dealer, so I won't have a fixed location. I'll probably be wearing my St. Louis Mineral & Gem Society name tag. So, if you see a dark blue name tag shaped like a map of Missouri with the name "Brad" on it, please say "hi" to me!
Rock show tip for newbies: if you're a member of a club & have a club name tag, wear it to shows. Some dealers give club members a discount!
