So just wondering if anyone has ever found any orbicular jasper? Well last week i had no idea what jasper was...and so i went on the otherside of town where there is a rock shop and talked to the nice ladie there....business is closing so if anyone is looking for something everything is 50% off..... BUT back to my story....she showed me several rough jasper specimen rocks to keep an eye out for and a few specialty rocks like the orbicular and then told me good luck.... SO OFF I WENT TO GO LOOK FOR ROCKS........THESE ARE TODAYS FINDS......ABOUT 3 HOURS WORTH OF WALKING. All the orbicular jaspers that i found are so amazing....Some have tints of green, black, blue behind them, some are orange, red, have little yellow dots, white dots, red dots....So cool looking! Cant wait to polish some of these....and i cant wait to maybe slab a couple and mack some Cabs out of them...they would be so nice! one thing about all these rocks is once i found my first rock it was so easy to find the rest....Rocks are so nice, smoth waxy soft look to them all........it was like one after another....and once i found the orbicular stuff i stopped grabbing the other reds and other multi toned jaspers.....There was so much...i litterally found a multi banded jasper rock about the size of my head if not bigger.......way to big for my pockets....these rocks alone were pulling my pants down....lol...... CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE PINK SERPINTINE JAPER ROCK IS? COULD IT BE RAINFOREST JASPER? IT IS SO GORGEOUS! Its now my favorite! THANKS FOR LOOKNG GUYS! JAY

Yep those spotted ones are excellent finds of orbicular jasper. That particular nodular form occurs from San Francisco Bay north to the Puget Sound region as beach pebbles and in situ deposits in the coast ranges. It also occurred in situ up where we had our ranch in Mariposa County near Hornitos as the host rock there is the same Jurassic material that occurs in the coast range Franciscan deposits. You even found a brecciated/orbed piece ( pic#7) that is a dead ringer for Sierra Jasper which is basically Hornitos Brecciated Jasper. It's really interesting to note you found one of the orbed pieces with the green epidite/chlorite included. In the Hornitos deposits, that green material is one of the indicators we looked for when trying to locate poppy/orbicular jasper sites. You're going to love working your nodules up as they generally take a fine polish and the orbs only look better when all shined up. Excellent cabbing material too and the nodules, when you find them as beach pebbles, usually have a lot of the porous stuff tumbled off by wave action so what you have left is really the good stuff. Keep on with the search as it looks like you've found a great location for good poppies......Mel

I find some of those red/black orbicular in the Willamette River, but they did not polish too well. I think the jasper is altered, or the pourous stuff Mel mentioned was all that I found.

yah some of this stuff is so gorgeous...i sat outside with a spray bottle for about 30 minutes and just combed through all the orbicular i found and man o man....detail among detail....some of the pictures show the dots and what not, but what you dont see is whats in the dots and whats behind the dots and the whole matrix or i would call canvas.....i cant wait to get some of these tumbled and some others cut....so just ecpect in a month or so to recieve a finally finished post of these guys.....
I really have to say that the brecheted/orbed piece is absolutely gorgeous. Ill be making that one into a cab for sure, but it wont be my first. Not gonna mess up on that one. It is a beauty for sure.
Thanks for enjoying these pictures guys....wish you could enjoy the stones themselves but this will have to do......
Laters, Jay
