Picked up another used tumbler last week, yeah I got a problem with buying these things, this one makes 4. I got an older lortone QT6 or it's ancient equivalent. Its so old the barrels (2 came with it) have metal knurled knuts instead of plastic as the current ones do. I though wow, cool! and proudly pointed this fact out to my wife (who could care less) to show what a neat bit of old world craftsmanship I had acquired. Since this purchase - (2) 6 lb barrels remember - was mostly motivated to convert my since 12 lb QT12 to a QT66 I quickly loaded up the barrels and got 2 going at once and left them to do their business with only a glance or 2 over the next few days. Checked the progress tonight and noticed there is a gaping nut sized hole in the barrel guide. Turns out these are made of aluminum and an old timey steel knut will grind right through it in a couple days... knuts! Perhaps a metal nut was never something Lortone ever made and these were someone's substitution at some point in time. Its a risk you run buying used stuff I suppose. Anyone else ever seen a metal knurled nut on a lortone barrel? If so make sure your barrel guide is steel or do what I am about to do and order a few plastic replacements from your favorite supplier of these. Scott
