I'm talking the REAL N. CA, like Yreka, Seiad Valley, Happy Camp, etc. Not San Fransisco or the Bay area. We're spending the summer up here looking for gold, but on off days, I'd like to go hounding. Anybody know this area? Jo

Sorry I was up wandering about North Nevada this last weekend- If you are up there on the Klamath, you should try to hook up with Rich "southforkmining" he's just outside of Happy Camp.
I've found lots of nice green rocks (usually serpentine) along some of the Forest service roads between the Klamath River and the Oregon border, but I haven't been up there much in the last few years, just keep an eye out for mine claim signs and stay away from posted property.
There is so much interesting country up there, my suggestion would be to just take some time and go off exploring it, you're bound to come across some interesting rocks too, given the areas geologic history.

Grab a guide really. Happy Camp jade off the bars. Agates and Jaspers in the river. Talk to the Roxy Ann club in Medford, see the Rock Museum and talk to the members who run it. Rhodenite by Cave Jct. Petrified woods in the volcanics. Theres a couple shops in grants pass.

When the reservoir is down at Black Buttes/Stoney Creek, the variety of jasper, and jasper/agate is outstanding. The colours mix is like a huge bowl of the old fashioned Chirstmas candy. And, the reservoir has camping, and is only a few mile from I-5. Woody
