Right now I am using the TV-5 vibe by Raytech. I want to be able to tumble larger rocks, and more rocks at one time. I think a 10 pounder would be good for now. Any opinions on which make or model is best? Thanks! Erica

Yes, the Thumlers UV-10 is the absolute best there is!! I've been using mine for almost 4 years now. As any other tumbler, be sure to order an extra bowl for the polish stage. The best place to get this tumbler is www.therockshed.com/tumbler3.html ..... Shawn is a great person to deal with. The UV-10 bowls last a long time too, I just wore out my first one about two months ago. Also, don't forget the grit packs! One grit pack (coarse, fine, and polish) lasts me a couple batches. His AO polish is the best there is for vibes.

Randy is right, the UV-10 is the best.I have a couple of others that were made for case polishing and they are nowhere near as good as the UV-10.

Right on, the UV-10 it is then. Thanks for the link too. I had actually browsed their website recently & had a good feeling about them. I appreciate their efforts to try to cut shipping fees by offering to send in a Flat Rate Box (when possible). Now I better go make some money so I can justify the purchase! Thanks again.

Erica, if you have a lot of rock, you might consider upping to the UV-18. If memory serves me right, it's only about $50-60 more than a UV-10, but tumbles almost twice as much stone. Since vibes don't use much grit, the on-going expense isn't that much more, either (unlike upping to larger rotaries).

As a UV-18 owner, the one thing to consider is that it takes a lot of rock to feed it. For example, a Thumler's Model B, at 15 lbs., is too small. You would need a Model B and another tumbler, or ideally several Model Bs since the coarse grind takes so long and there is so much reduction in size.
But I am very happy with the tumbler. Be sure to get the industrial version (that's all The Rock Shed sells).
