Just spent the weekend in Sunlight Basin looking for Sunlight Basin Agate. Didnt really know what I was looking for. This agate is listed in the Rockhounding Wyoming Guide but not listed in the Wyoming State Geological Survey on gemstones , minerals and rocks. Does anybody on the forum have any info or maybe a picture of this type of agate. We did enjoy the camping and the scenery was great. Thanx all

I was at Sunlight Basin a couple of years ago. I agree that the scenery is great. We found a few small agates in a road cut, but I don't know if they were what is mentioned in the Wyoming guide.

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures of the agates. It was just at sunset and I got busy trying to get a picture of a moose. I do remember that the agates were pretty ordinary. No color, or pattern. They were quite small also. We only had a few minutes to look since the light was fading fast.

Jim:
I have not found any carnelian in Wyoming. I have only been able to hunt there a few times though. I have found some quartzite that has red streaks, as well as some agate with red in it. Not what I would call carnelian though.
