I think the beginner's luck I had with the first batch ran out. This second batch has been troublesome.
I wrote earlier about slurry leaking out the top of the vibe bowl & how the rocks congregated to one side of the bowl. Thanks to some very good suggestions here, I'm guessing it's all related to something in the spring mechanism. I peaked underneath where the springs are and noticed thick strings of hot glue going from a couple springs to somewhere else like the external casing on the other side! Sloppy construction!
Anyway, batch 2 went through the "Borax burnish before the final polish" yesterday. When I removed & rinsed the rocks from this step, I noticed all sorts of new chips and cracks in the rocks! I would say more than 50 percent of the larger rocks had new chips & cracks. Really discouraging. About half way through filling them with G-S Hypo-Tube Cement (used for watch crystals, jewelry making...) I gave up on them. I'm still not sure what went wrong.
Needless to say, I just got through ordering the UV-10 (plus extra bowl), more grit, AO 1000, AO polish, & large ceramic pellets from the Rock Shed. (I mentioned that they came highly recommended by all of you at RTH).
In the meantime, batch 2 is sitting on the shelf. Once I get my UV-10 I don't know if I should bother trying to finish them or start fresh on a new batch.

You can resurrect that batch by cutting off bruised edges and making new surfaces, when you are ready. Congrats on your UV-10! I have one and love it!

You need to use ceramic media 1/3-1/2 the load. That will help cushion things. You also need to have the bowl full.

Thanks Jo! I'm excited to get it! When you say cutting off bruised edges & making new surfaces, do mean with a dremel? My edges are more like beaten & shattered, LOL.
John, I did use the pellets, but I don't think I used enough. I'm pretty sure it wasn't 1/3 to 1/2 of the load. Thanks for the info.
I think a lot of the stones probably had cracks & pits to begin with that I hadn't noticed. I was more diligent in my inspection of this new batch that I put in the 120/220 this morning, and I ook LOTS of photos!

Cracks, scratches, pits and other defects are more noticeable when polished. It is always best to really check the load before advancing to next step. It wouldn't be unusual to do multiple 120/220 loads to get a 500 load. Advance the best and your finished product will be much better.

John gives sound advice. What I'm saying is that you might want to invest in a Workforce saw (Home Depot for under $100) to slice off those bad edges. If you're getting a UV-10, a WF is kind of the next step. That way, you can also slice slabs and make preshaped cabs and run them with loads of similar hardness. Just enabling here...

John gives very sound advice. So sound that I followed him on it & added a higher ratio of pellets to this current batch. It's rollin' right along - just the way it's supposed to! So, a Workforce saw, huh? Yep, I've had my eye on that ever since I read about it in this forum. I might have to wait a week or so for that purchase, as I am still trying to break the news to my husband that I just spent about 300 bucks over at the Rock Shed yesterday for a UV-10 and some accessories. Hah, good thing for that "Ebay Earnings Cash Stash" I got sitting over there in the PayPal account. Yep, I can see this hobby is going places! Feel free to enable any time (I'm still trying to figure out how to put those yellow smileys in my post...)

Erica, I can't offer sound or unsound advice but I do wish to say CONGRATS!!! on getting the UV10! Now I'm kind of jealous as I'll continue to struggle along with the TV5 until I have more play money. This batch you're struggling with does sound much like my first attempt with the vibe, and I did see a vast difference in my 2nd batch when I chose the rocks with more care and padded the load well with ceramic pellets. I think this whole vibe thing is a matter of finding the right balance of everything, and that's kind of a challenge, but when you do, it's well worth it! Bonnie
