I was able to finish up a few cabs recently. Just getting around to posting now. I won a contest on another board and the prize was Fordite. I also got small pieces to practice with, so this is my first practice piece. You need a light touch with this stuff, but I think I figured it out. It has silver paint layers in it and it gives a kind of tiger eye (Chatoyant?) look at the right angle. Hard to capture with the camera. Ocean Jasper. Seems to have been sliced at a weird angle. It's all mottled on top with only a few of the nices orbs that I like on the side. love the colors though. These next 3 are from WWR. Dan(Blarney) sent them to me last year. Thanks again Dan. Backlit Backlit close-up Dont Know what this is or where I got it. It may have been in box of saw junk I got from John (Builtonrock). It took a helluva shine and the scene it beautiful. Dont know what this is either but it Kinda looks like an eye. And last but not least. I think this is some kind of fossilized plant or maybe even coral. I got a pretty big chunk of it from a rock shop. This is the end piece I cut off of the chunk. As I was grinding the nice little crystal window appeared and stayed solid. It didn't undercut or open up. Shawn says it looks like a fishing lure. Thanks for looking, hope you like. Mitzi

A tip with the Fordite, I had to cut a piece to fit a square bezel setting in a ring, I filed it to shape with a jewellers file, More control than a grinder! Sanded with the usual fine sandpaper to prepolish, Here is the the top tip. Polish with car (auto) polish on a soft cloth. This will give you a beautiful high gloss, Fordite as you know is car paint and the car polish is just the trick! ;D Hope that helps, Ivan

Mitzi: Your cabs always make me smile and that Fordite is something else! I also really like the piece from John, I think it is some of his Royal Savannah Jasper. Nice set overall! Amber

Awesome cabs Mitzi! I love the colors in the OJ. The Detroit Agate is a sweety too, and great tip Ivan on the polishing!

Beautiful cabs, Mitzi! All of them, but that picture jasper from John is my favorite, pretty complex scenery there! The last one is very interesting.

I love the fordite but will never cab it, way to expensive for a hobbiest like me. The RSJ from BOR is also a fave. Nice work.
