These pictures are of the cut pieces I worked on today. About 50-60 that got smooth edges and rounded corners. As you can see, I only have about a half bowl. What can I pad the remaining half bowl with to be able to run this batch? I still have a lot of the raw cut pieces left that I did not get to. Can I use the more smooth of all the pieces for padding? I have plastic pellets enough to pad quite a bit, but not what I feel would be acceptable. Help!! Thanks Julie

Looks like you could pad with previously tumbled agates and jaspers. Use different sizes from 1/4" and up. The odds are pretty good that you won't damage the ones that were already done. I understand that plastic pellets don't work as well as ceramic ones. And fill that tumbler up more than the directions say. It'll run quieter and just as good as a 3/4 full one.

Glass marbles are out of the question for me because I rotary tumble and the gas causes leakage. Would marbles work ok in a vibe?

Julie, I ended up using 3 pounds (!) of ceramic spacers PLUS about 1/2 pound of plastic pellets in my first load (same vibe as yours) before I finally got it to turn over right. And I started with 3 of the 3-1/2-lb Thumlers barrels full of rough taken through the coarse grit. I don't know if I'll ever get enough stuff together for another vibe run! I am tumbling 3 pounds of mixed small garnet / emerald rough, that I plan to use as filler also. We'll see what happens, I guess.

You will have better luck if you cut enough slabs to fill the bowl since the weight of the slabs rubbing against each other is what wears them down.
