This is a long story, so sit back, relax and have a cuppa coffee. Last Christmas rocklicker Steve sent me an awesome box of goodies. One of the best boxes I've ever received. Thank you Steve! In this box was the most solid piece of Morgan Hill Poppy I've seen to date. I looked at it for a long time wondering how best to cut it. It was large enough for two nice sized cabs. Finally I decided to leave it as is and make one super large cab. I basically left it in the same shape as it was when I got it. It's 3 1/2 inches long and I did it on 6 inch wheels no less. So, I ground the edges smooth and got a decent shape, then proceeded to dome it. Just about the time I had a dome on it I realized I had domed the wrong side!! Never being one that lets stupidity get in the way, I domed the other side and made a double dome out of it. Cutting one dome on a 3 1/2 inch cab is bad enough, but now I had to do two. Here is the side the Dumba** did And here's the side I did after I kicked the Dumba**'s a** all over the shop I took it to 100K diamond and didn't get a very good shine, so I'm going to try a little cerium or AO to see what happens. Thanks fer looking and if you read all that, thanks fer reading. Curt

Holy crap Curt (Honey!!!), that was a great story and you are not a dumb a**, you did the right thing saving every beautiful inch of that super looking stone! It is so hard to find a nice poppy jasper that isnt all fractured and that is a beauty. I don't want this cab to be a reminder of your mistake and cause you stress, so maybe you better send it my way, LOL, I think I see a pic of Obama in that cab! Amber

Curt,
It is a work of art. The only thing that will make it any better is if you get the shine on it you want. It is a beauty! Fran

Beautiful cab Curt! I like the idea of just saying it's a double sided cab and leaving it at that. With patterns like that, it's nice to have both sides finished. Glad you liked the slab so much. It's great you got such a big cab out of it too! wow! A lot of time the stuff is loaded with fractures and you end up with a bunch of itty bitties (nothin wrong with those ) BTW, 100K seems to do the job once you work up to it. I have found that using cerium on felt gives great results on MHPJ. Don't know why it comes out better than leather. Glad you liked the rock. I recently found a shop about an hour away that has some real nice Morgan Hill jasper. I mean knock your socks off kind of stuff. I'll be sure to send some your way next time i heads out there ... BTW, funny you should post this because I am getting the tumblers ready to go and have some of your wood lined up from that awesome box you sent me. I am looking forward to seeing how it comes out! Steve

Amber, you really know how to kill a cab. Obama image indeed! Susan2, I know at least one lady that wears cabs that large. This one though will stay in my specimen cab collection. Rich, you have such a way of making a person feel good. Thanks Steve. I'll try the Cerium. Any time you have some MHPJ like that and want to send it this way, please feel free to do so. ;D Hope the wood turns out well for you. Thanks everyone for all your kind comments! Curt
