I started a really cool batch (Lortone rotary) tonight.
A while back, I got my purple rock from MJ and he included some beautiful pale mauve colored rock.
So ... I started a batch tonight. I cannot wait to see it.
It is a harder stone, so I am starting with 60/90 asnd will let it run for at least 7 days.
We'll see!

Julie, I have had to run 60/90 for 7 to 10 days and sometimes 2 or 3 times before the rough has been smoothed off on these harder batches. Sounds like we need a Vibe! I just started a set of the white and blue grey Chalcedony in my Lortone and I probably won't see the finished product for 40 days!

Karock ..... I know exactly what you are saying.
This is where the infamous PATIENCE comes into play. And ... I have none! ;D

Many times I've had to rough the same load for several months with grit changes every 7-10 days in order to get the rocks good enough to go to the next stage.
The key to patience is to have MANY rotary tumblers and at least 1 good vibe. This way you're always producing polished rocks!!! lol
I have 9 or 10 tumblers (can't remember) that ran constantly.Due to "Bushboma" economics and being retired I've had to stop most of the tumblers but that little vibe puts out some pretty nice goodies pretty fast so I still beat the "P" word!
In my humble opinion there are NO rocks (other then rounded beach rocks) that can be roughed in in 7-10 days. I'm talking about agate and jasper not Petosky stones!!! LOL
Ya gotta think of it this way,,,,,
Would you go out without being completely dressed with your hair flying in every direction with mud all over your body? No, You take the TIME to make yourself presentable. Of course everyone has a bad hair day (except for us fortunate bald people) but they still try their best to get the knots out.
Find something else to do like making bead jewelery or suthin! This will distract your attention for that dreaded thing rolling around.
Heck I try to make jewelery, polish slabs, cut cabs, try to make jewelery again, tumble, make gadgets, play my geetar, try to make jewelery again,,,,,,,
Ya gotta stay away from the tumbler(s)!!!!
Did I say that I try to make jewelery too??? LOL

I know ... I understand about the hardness and time frames. I just use the 7-8 days as a frame for checking the barrels. I have had batches in the past that have needed 3-4 weeks in 60/90.
What I need to do is stay away from all the soft stuff for the time being and starting working with nothing but 6.5-7 mohs and up.
I try to do the wrapping and as much other stuff.
I just need to put my butt in gear and do nothing my saw, cut, and form.
Thanks ConRock ...
I do love my Lortone (33B) and my one vibe. That is all the space I have right now. Well .... other than buying another (next month maybe budget item) twin Lortone and placing it next to the other one.
As always Julie
