I am dipping into my smidge of coffers to get some ceramic pellets.
I am at the Rock Shed and see that there are 2 sizes. Does it really matter what size I use in the vibe as long as I have full bowl?
Thanks

Last time I shopped there he had a round ceramic pellet which he doesn't have anymore. I really like them. I got the large cylinders too and don't like them much as they're pretty large and heavy for my needs so if I get more it'll be the smaller cylinder assortment. I think smaller is easier on your rocks and just has more surface contact....Mel

I use a mix of both in my vibe.

Purchase a package of large cylinders and a package of small. You can mix them. You want the load to have all sizes (rocks + filler)

I think in a rotary a mix would be best but agree with Mel the small size would work best in the Vibe.

Cool!
Thanks!
So far ... using plastic in the rotary has been okay.
But since I am having such an issue with cushion and full loads in my vibe, the plastic is a pain in the butt. It keeps climbing up the wall of the vibe and it stays there.
Getting a mix of the small and large sounds best. This I will try!

The small ceramics will climb up the wall of the vibe, too. I've forgotten which vibe you have, but I've had them stuck to the lid on my UV-18. They'll also try to dance out over the edge if you have the vibe running and the lid off.
I generally consider them to be a major PITA, but they do the job. They'll eventually wear away, so I don't use them in the 150/220 run, but use them as make up filler in later runs.
I use a pair of separating screens when I'm washing (there's a thread somewhere in the Home Made Equipment section on the ones I built), so that I more easily wash the rocks and screen out the pellets when I'm done polishing.

Too funny, this is the second post in a row I've read about plastic media crawling up the side of the vibe bowl. Yeah, I've had a few jump over the edge too. In addition to the ceramic pellets, I have started trying these little pebbles that I bought from Dollar Tree. Don't know how they are working yet, but none have jumped out yet! ~Erica

i am still experimenting with ceramic pellets. I have a Lortone T12 I use for rough grind and will use them if I need filler there and don't have enough small stuff to use. i can't tell it helps much, or is superior to using the little stuff as filler. in the vibe, I run 400, 600, prepolish and polish and use the pellets in those loads as needed. Compared to plastic, I can't see that the ceramic is in any way superior to plastic pellets and use plastic exclusively in prepolish and polishg stages. My vibe is a little Raytech andf I haven't had the problem of the pellets climbing up the sides in use. They shake off and roll with the rocks. I've used both sizes of ceramic cylinders, the large as filler in the rougher grits and the smaller for fine grits. Bottom line, I'm not sureI'll order mor ceramic media when these finally wear out, as they surely are doing.
